but everytime i remember him bowler yorkers at the death in the BBL the game was pretty much over, so I mean it's not much to take note of is it? i just looked at about 4 scorecards and he's not really even bowling there very often anyway. It's an option yes, but surely we're increasing the chances of needing more death bowling options by picking and bowling a spinner who doesn't really take wickets during the first 16 overs of the game? (and doesn't add anything with the bat.) I mean we all know how much i hate Krejza, but he's surely the spinner to pick from tassie isn't he

I dunno know, I'd just rather play Lyon right now. More of a wicket-taker. I mean, if we want to bowl Doherty, we can just bowl Dussey can't we.

I realise by saying this I've set-up a Doherty 5 wicket haul in the next T20, but I just wanted to put it out there.

I'm really sorry if anyone else was thinking this too, and now hates me because doherty is gonna star from now on

add mark waugh to the list of spinners btw

Nah, different types of spinners, Hussey more sidespin where as Doherty gets more overspin which allows him to hit the crease. Hussey because of his skiddy nature has less margin for error when bowling in the last three or four.

I'm not saying he's particularly good at it, but I think that the fact that he can plays a big role, especially with our issues with quicks bowling at the death (Chokey McKay, Lee, etc.)

he got picked for the T20's against India though. that happened before the most recent attack showed they suck at the death. i mean, they already had shown they sucked. but not recently on the international stage. they clearly think he's one of the best spin options and i just don't get it

then again of the attack last night only Watson and maybe Christian are cert. to be at the T20 WC so who cares.

nah they just didn't want to pick him for two T20's only in the WI. He'll be there for the Pakistan T20's and depending how he goes, the WC

which is all the more reason to play lyon instead of doherty tomorrow

The Selection Panel of the West Indies Cricket Board today announced a 12-member squad to play for the WICB President’s XI against Australia in the Digicel Series tour match from Monday, April 2 to Wednesday, April 4 at the 3Ws Oval at the Cave Hill campus of the University of the West Indies in Barbados.

President’s XI Squad

Carlton Baugh Jr (Captain)

Ryan Austin

Nkrumah Bonner

Johnson Charles

Kyle Corbin

Fidel Edwards

Jason Holder

Delorn Johnson

Nelon Pascal

Kieran Powell

Devon Smith

Devon Thomas

Three players in the squad – batsman Corbin, all-rounder Holder and left-arm fast bowler Johnson – are uncapped at the international level, but all were part of the first term of the Sagicor West Indies High Performance Centre also located at the Cave Hill campus.

Only Baugh and Edwards of all the players from territories taking part in the semi final of the Regional 4-Day Tournament were considered for selection.

Andre Coley will coach the side for the match, with WICB selector Courtney Browne in the role of manager, and West Indies physiotherapist C.J. Clark to give fitness support.

This will be the only practice game for Australia prior to the three-match Digicel Test Series.

Windies make one change to 13-man squad for 2nd Digicel T20 in Barbados on Friday. Danza Hyatt comes in for Darren Bravo

Trinidad and Tobago's top run-scorer Denesh Ramdin returns from injury to captain a strengthened national squad for the Regional Four-Day Tournament semi-final against Barbados, which bowls off on Friday at Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain.
T&T also welcome back West Indies batsmen Adrian Barath and Darren Bravo and pace bowler Ravi Rampaul and chairman of selectors Dudnath Ramkessoon believes those players will bolster the team and give them the best chance of advancing to the final.
Ramdin and Bravo, who were T&T's most consistent batsman in the four-day tournament, were both called up to the West Indies squad for the ODI series against Australia, but Ramdin was sidelined with a finger injury, which ruled him out of the five-match contest

Am reliably informed Crayfish wouldn't be out of place in the West Indies.

So the President’s XI team for the warm up match vs Australia will look like..

Smith
Charles
Powell
Corbin
Bonner
Baugh (wk)
Holder
Johnson
Edwards
Pascal
Austin

Most of the players are either playing in the semi-finals of the regional competition this weekend for Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad and Barbados or playing for WI in the T20 game, so this team is made up of players from CCC and Winwards who got eliminated from the competition,

Batting does look a little light but it's not the worst team i've seen to be honest, all bar Johnson, Corbin and Holder have played for the West Indies and there is some very promissing young players in that bunch, namely Jason Holder who many believe could be the next Ambrose, and whats funny is Ambrose just recently became his bowling coach at CCC :D , Johnson is a tall, quick left arm seamer who is getting some attention recently aswell, whilst Bonner is well liked by the coaches and is seen as a future test player,

Austin is a decent offy who's been taking wickets for fun for the last three years or so so he'll provide the spin, personally i like the look of this attack and believe they'll ask some serious questions so it will be interesting to see what transpires, i think this is the perfect match for Holder to demonstrate his skills against a top team, if he does well then he might just find himself in the Test squad next week, if any lad is gonna remove Sammy from the Test side in the near future then he'd be one of the pacers i'd be backing.

Bit of an understatement there. Where is the batting?
Shame Pollard is off to the IPL.

What's the deal with Johnson Charles? Is he expected to become a good cricketer? His record is horrid and he looks way out of his depth apart from some slashed boundaries.

Surely at 24 he is beyond the potential stage?

Does Pollard actually have any desire to play test cricket?
Yeah; he's said he wants to be a Test cricketer. I don't think he's all that fussed though personally. If he got picked in a Test I honestly do reckon he'd happily forgo IPL for it, but he's not keen on playing the A team matches and First Class fixtures the West Indies wanted him to play to prove his way in if they conflict.

Most of the best batters are playing for their teams in the four day competition semi-final this weekend, that's why they aren't in this team, anyway let me break down the top five for you!!.

Smith= crap

Charles= hit and miss but showed he could score runs in the odi's against Australia, but tbh he's not someone who's been talked about as a possible Test player,

Powell= in terms of technique he's arguably better than our best batting hope Darren Bravo, the kid has all the shots and is stylish personified, but mentally he hasn't been up to it lately, scored a wonderful 80 against India in our last test though and also a 70 vs Bang, just 21 so i'm sure he'll get better, this will be a test for him to see if he should remain in the main test squad or not,

Corbin= another young lad who has potential, was in the top three runs scorers in the last four day competition playing for CCC and earned a call up to play for the A-team against Bang late last year, he didn't perform though and since then his form has dipped, if he gets in though he can be a handful and i still think he has potential to go to a higher level,

Bonner= well it was evident in the T20 game that the lad can bat, i think he's destined to be in the test side within a year or so, already scored a ton for the A-team and has a habit of getting in, just needs to convert more of his starts, also bowls some good legspin,

Also Jason Holder is like another Andre Russell down the order, the boy can wack it very far once he gets hold of it, and the more he plays the better his scores have been,

No doubt it's not the best top order i've seen but it's got enough to give the Aussie bowlers a decent work out i'd say.
