Ya the 175 was an absolute dream of an innings. Never let the run rate get out of control and had the big shots whenever needed. Still cannot fathom how we lost that game even with Sachin's shot to get out.
The Australian team supposedly sat down after winning the game, and started trying to think of a mistake he made before he got out. Basically just talked about Sachin's knock for 15 minutes after they had won.

Cool fact Vic.

I still remember watching that knock live. Was shattered when they lost.

And Ankit, I remember that Jadeja runout. Gavaskar was livid in the commentary box iirc. I do think Jadeja cops perhaps more **** than he deserves, but by Golly he doesn't do himself any favours does he?

The Sharjah knocks were truly emotional, gut-churning affairs. It was also a simpler time, before the match-fixing scandals and the ostentatious display of the BCCI's wealth and power. My favorite memories, though, are the first time he opened against NZ in Auckland (?) and hammered 80 off some 47 balls, and then the rain-soaked Singer Cup where he scored his first hundred; McDermott played that game if memory serves

...I didn't see the Ind-Pak Chennai 99 test live, so that didn't hurt as much...
I watched it live and it was a personal heart-breaking experience, trust me...almost as heart-breaking as the 1996 WC Semi-final against Sri Lanka...

It was even more heartbreaking to be honest... the semi final wasnt a close game and it made me feel more embarassed than heartbroken... similar stuff happened there too... Sachin fell, and everyone followed.

The chennai game was simply the most heartbreaking moment as an indian fan for me, along with the Azharudding match fixing controversy. And imo, classifying Tendulkar's wicket in that match as a choke has always made me really mad...:@
His back was giving out and he had to try and finish the match quickly, he was simply decieved by a damn good ball by Saqlain that drifted away beautifully. He was undone by a bowler at his peak. The 175, though was a choke... as magnificent an innings as it was, he should have seen us home

For me, best Sachin innings in ODIs is by far the 98 vs Pakistan WC... simply exhilarating to watch. Virtually every boundary he hit was orgasmic... especially this one :

A philosophical POV perhaps - but IMO 'how heart-breaking a failure is' has got as much to do with how badly you wanted it as with how close you were to success.

Well the chennai match was the first test against Pakistan in an age... and it was the first ever India-Pakistan test i ever saw live... wanted it pretty badly tbh... and it was worse because it was in our grasp and we let it slip.. The semifinal always looked gone to me when Tendulkar fell. WC 2003 final was almost as bad as the 96 semi imo... because of the sense of humiliation

same here...but a heart-break doesn't necessarily happen at the last 10 minutes of the match...

Anyways, a heart-breaking experience is a personal thing - so no point in arguing over it.

Can't access the link from my office...but think that Tendulkar's best ODI hundreds are CB (VB?) series finals, '98 final in Sharjah, the double hundred, etc etc...

Pretty sure if I was watching the Chennai 99 test, it would have been supremely painfully. I was just spared the torture by something else that I was busy with.

The last 2 drives against Lee here would be good competition:

****ing Jadeja.

Ruined that match alongwith the T20 WC match he ruined.

The uppercut he played against Lee at WACA too,IMO.

Sachin Tendulkar upper cuts Brett Lee - YouTube

Almost a afterthought on a pitch where supposedly all the talk before the game was how India would be blown away with pace.

My fave is still THAT straight six off Brandes at Benoni. Remember that one?
Yes remember it. Tony Greig's in commentary box cried - "Absolutely, absolutely magical"

Tendulkar's batting in ODIs and Greig's commentary - stuff we have all grown up on :D

EDIT: This thread should be renamed "Official Tendulkar Fanboy thread" :p

Not sure the latter counts as a positive tbf
Greig's commentary in general = crap
Greig's commentary when watching Sachin of the 90s= epic stuff

Remember during Sachins desert storm innings he hit a ball from steve waugh high in the air and Greig was like "It's gone again, another six, no its gonna be caught, he's got him, tendulkar's out, no he's dropped him, it's gone for four" FFS.
As silly as his commentary was, it undoubtedly added some excitement... kinda like Bill Lawry really

His commentary during 143 against Australia was great esp the line "Sachin Tendulkar wants to win this match for India" gave me goosebump at that time
