FMD, Wellington get smoked and Wagner's season stats get some undeserved polish, what a **** day.

Wagner always seems to turn it on against us, now that I think about it.

Why undeserved? I believe he bowled those 7 balls that took wickets. And it wasn't like Wellington were mailing it in - they were still in with a very minor sniff, albeit a very minor one. Same team scored 501-6 last week.

Same team? No Wonky this week. He's the best thing since bread came sliced.

I've read that he was on restricted bowling loads by NZC, bowling just 8 overs a day maximum in inter-school matches. But he played in the Hawke Cup challenge match for Southland a few weeks ago and I think bowled 24 overs.
He has been under restrictions, and in that Hawke Cup game he bowled all his overs in the first innings, so wouldnt have been able to bowl, should it have gone to another innings.

I only just realised but how bad is that Wellington XI? Harry Boam playing as the third seamer and batting at eight is about as stupid as you could imagine one would think. Totally deserve this hiding tbh.

He's a batsmen though isn't he, a batsmen who was deemed to be good enough to bat at three at one point during the season. His bowling is decent enough and he's pretty ideal for a 4th/5th bowler but no way in the world should he be playing as the third seamer, especially in a team where your opening bowlers are two of the most expensive and loose going around.

Wellington should've made Pollard 12th man and played Tugaga instead IMO. Patel at eight and Tugaga at nine is pretty solid batting depth anyway.

Yeah, reckon you've got it right. I like Pollard, but it makes little sense to have him in this line up.

Howsie often campaigns for the selection of more specialist bowlers when I really don't think it's warranted but unless Franklin is going to bowl more than he is, I think he's probably right here. If you have a player who warrants a spot on both batting and bowling alone then you fill your 'extra' spot with a batsman as the law of diminishing returns applies more to bowlers than it does batsmen, but Wellington have only really picked three proper bowling options here (and one of them is Jeets..) - again, unless Franklin's in a bowling mood, which he doesn't seem to be.

.
I only have only seen him in the HRV cup but from the little I saw he didn't look good enough to bowl 1st change. That is not based on him getting smacked but more open his action etc.

I think Boam should be much higher than number eight, and agree that Wellington could do with an extra bowler. What I was saying was I think Boam is pretty decent. Genuine FC 4th seamer and looks like a test match 5th bowler provided your other four bowlers are proper bowlers.

I guess Wellington think they can get away with Franklin/Woodcock/Elliott as their fifth bowler. I disagree if so; three bit part bowlers don't add up to a good bowler, they just add up to three bit part bowlers.

McKay and Kugglejuggle will need to step up here, unless this is going to be the one game per summer Patel takes 5fer.

Edit: Great to see Rutherford, KNB and Cachopa ton up today. Looks like a lot of starts for Auckland so far but no tons, which is unfortunate for them.

And last of all, awesome to see Craig Cumming make a score in possibly his final innings for Otago.
