***Official*** England in Sri Lanka 2012

Wouldn't mind Silva at Galle. He has been in good form and just did well against the England attack minus Anderson. Also considering that Chandimal hasn't kept in a while PJ might get selected ahead of him as well.
Chandimal should definitely play. If he doesn't keep he should bat six for Mathews. Would be madness to play Silva ahead of him IMO.

There's no way Bopara should play if he's not going to bowl, IMO.
Quite. It's going to be bastardly hot (to such an extent that Prior is talking about keeping with no pads unless the pitch is a complete minefield) so it's going to be very hard yakka for four specialist bowlers, especially if one is carrying a less than one hundred percent ankle.

Sammy's SLA is a cut above Trott's mediums or KP's offies, so I think he's now a real, live chance of a debut.

12 a side game, so no FC status.
Pretty sure it was an actual eleven-a-side FC game. Listed as such on cricinfo anyway.

Bit of friendly collusion about the result but, as UK readers of a certain age will confirm, back when three-day CC games were the norm, this is nothing new.

Think he was talking about the game in which Cook went for 111 as being a 12 a side rather than the current one. Flower and co seem to have made a point of making every warm up game FC these days

It's obviously closer now between Bopara and whoever but I still probably would go with him Bopara. If not I'd take Bresnan over Patel.

Patel just isn't going to bowl much in an attack with Swann and Panesar. Panesar just loves massive long spells and is a much better SLA'er than Patel.

The Bopara injury increases Bresnan's chances 10 fold and I'd quite like to see Bresnan play now in a five man attack given the alternatives are Bopara or Patel.

I'd don't particularly like any of the options

Bopara- Likely to contribute 10 of 50 balls regardless of the match situation but is a better bat than Patel. cant bowl.

Patel - Fat ****, no experience, seems like the kind of guy who will just go out there and be aggresive but is he good enough? Pie chucker at international standard probably wont bowl more than a fewovers

Bresnan - Lack of match practice. Solid bowler and batsman. Reliable and England know they can trust him. Gives more options to the bowling unit than other two.

?????????????????

Actually I'd go with Bresnan at 7. Bit of a risk but I'm not convinced (as are the england setup) that Bopara or Patel are really international standard.

As far as I'm concerned they might as well fly Bopara back home, he's simply not one of the top 7 batsmen in the country. If we play two spinners if Bres is fit he must play especially taking int account Broad's dodgy ankle that he rolled.
I wouldn't mind Patel being picked, if Bres is not fit and firing, I think his batting in particular is underrated and on form I don't think that's that much between him & Bopara, add to that he's fit and Bopara isn't and it's a no brainer between the two for me.

On another note the treatment of the England fans out there has been appalling by SLC, charging them far more than the locals is just a absolute piss take and they've seen the England tour as a easy way to take advantage of the England fans. As far as I recall they didn't do this for the Aussie tour last year.

SLC shooting itself in the foot TBH.

Barmy Army will just occupy the fort and SLC will lose a lot of money because of the BA members not been willing to pay rip off prices for the seats in the ground.

Apparently they'd have to pay 10 times what Aussies had to last year.

Apparently they're made sure that "foreigners" are in the high priced areas. So they'll have to pay the full price if they want to see the match. It's 10 times what the Aussies payed last year, turning 5 days of test cricket form around £20, to £200.

It's a pathetic move from the SLC, putting the problem of their debts to the poor England fans who made the trip thinking the tickets would be a lot cheaper. Not only is it incredibly poor to raise the ticket prices when the fans had already made the visit to the country, meaning they had to buy tickets, but it's also plain discrimination to not allow the England fans in the cheap areas of the ground.

No wonder no one wants to be the Sri Lankan captain.

That's outright discrimination and pretty disgraceful. I remember someone telling me that in the subcontinent they have local tickets and then they have foreign tickets for different attractions such as shows, zoo's, etc. And the foreign tickets are much more expensive. Pretty shoddy stuff going on there.

So 10 euros is a big deal for the Barmy Army? FTR, what's the tickt price at Lords?

I have paid nearly 3000 Rs (15 euros) for the Royal - Thomian school cricket match ticket. Cannot see on what the whine is about.

The ticket price at Lord's is the same for an Englishman as a Sri Lankan.

I've no doubt it'd be illegal in the UK to charge one rate for "locals" and another for foreigners.

Bumping up the prices for England tests doesn't sit well generally, but I'd just about give them a pass if they were charging the same rate across the board (those old whores supply and demand) and, if the £200 for five days is correct, it'd still be a lot cheaper than the vast majority of test tickets up here. However to charge two seperate rates based on nationality is, however one slices it, tantamount to discrimination.

Actually ticket prices would be about £38 pounds which would be over 40 euros. Also it may not seem a big amount for one day, but most of the fans would have come to see all 5 days. Meaning they have to pay well over 200 euros.

Seriously you can't see the big deal with charging one set a fans a higher price than the other local ones, hmmm.

Nah, he didn't actually read any of the posts. He just saw people who weren't him criticising Sri Lanka and felt like having an argument.

Meh thats just good business.

Edit: Did not read the previous posts before reading this post. But yeah I don't see why people from a developed nation would whine about having to pay a few euros more in the single digits. The way I see it is the rich people being taxed more in some countries.

English journalists seem to think Patel will play.

Don't think it's the right decision but obviously hope he does well.

Hopefully they bat Prior above him because Prior imo is definitely the better bat and Patel is a pretty loose technically and mentally and probably not good enough to bat 6 in test cricket. Although the conditions should be as suited as anywhere else in the world for Patel to do well. Don;t think he'll bowl much though unless they're in the field for 200 overs.
