Dean Brownlie will most likely walk straight back into our side for the third test. I'd seriously consider Daniel Flynn as well.

Well that was an awesome day at the cricket. Boult get's randomly dropped, rain appears from nowhere to 'sprinkle" down for a good two hours and we get absolutely ****ing destroyed in the space of about 15 minutes. Test cricket huh, your've gotta love it.

Did they actually say why Boult was dropped today? I gather seeing as he was running the drinks out he wasn't injured. Couldn't quite believe my eyes this morning when I saw both Arnel and Gillespie's names on the team sheet, was tempted to leave right then.

Tough bloody gig that'll be, espeically at the Basin. Not that I would argue against it. I just hope we don't get rid of guys for the Windies tour (except for Nicol) because of the results during this summer. Five test matches against Australia and South Africa was never going to be easy and honestly what did you expect? These are New Zealand's best batsmen and we have to stick with them, it'll be easier over in the Caribbean you'd have to think, judge them after that IMO.

Daniel Flynn? Hhhmm.... maybe - but my pessimistic side tells me that he's just yet another NZ batsman who will forever struggle to step up to international standard, despite great domestic form. Maybe he'll get a chance to prove me wrong.

No, he isn't injured. Can't understand his omission at all. What did he do so wrong in Dunedin? I thought he was magnificent.

We actually mentioned you in this thread when we heard the news. Given both Heef and myself were annoyed by the news - and I'm not even a New Zealander - we guessed you'd be on suicide watch, particularly given Southee was dropped for this match as well.

According to Bond, Gillespie can reverse swing the ball. Has anyone seen any evidence of this? He's not really reknowned as a swinger of the ball..

Haha, well if Williamson get's dropped for the Basin test

Looks like from some footage domesticaly he was getting it to tail in - although from memory that was his stock ball anyway. From the guys I've talked to he's angled it in if anything this year, at a good clip and hitting the deck with reasonable power.

Saw the score.

Having Steyn and Philander bowling in partnership is borderline unfair, innit? Just insane wicket-taking ability.

I'm not guaranteeing Daniel Flynn will solve all our problems but I do believe at the very least he is a better batsman than Rob Nicol, BJ Watling and Martin Guptill in the longer form of the game. He looked competent at number 3 for a while when he was young and inexperienced and although it was fair to send him back to domestic cricket at the time there is still something there talent-wise. If he's not in the squad for the third test then he deserves to be in the squad to the West Indies.

Mark Richardson at the toss looked a bit surprised and asked if he was injured. Ross Taylor just said it was a selection decision. Tbf to the selectors Boult did bowl quite average in the first innings but he recovered well in the second innings so that shouldn't be enough for the selectors to suddenly rate Arnel or Gillespie over him.

This is clearly the disgruntled post hours after the red mist has gone away. Was expecting more of a D.O.G style rant ;)

Today I could not rant. Just, seen it all before and will again.

There was an inevitability that New Zealand would collapse horribly at least once in the series. I guess now we have that out of the way we can move on.

BUT, **** ME DEAD, CAN WE FOR ONCE SEE 151-4 ON THE FIRST ****ING INNINGS???

You also have to wonder how McCullum and Taylor are sleeping tonight. God only knows what that does to their psyche, knowing that if they get out to an attacking shot (which, normally, is fair enough once in a while for any batsmen), then the house of cards will fall. But, having said that, the stars aligned perfectly for that collapse, Steyn and Philander bowling in tandem. If it was just one of them we may have only lost 3 for none.
