Australian Domestic Season 2011-12

I do find great joy in the fact that Victoria misses out on the finals because Feldman and Cutting didn't think to run.

I do think that the points rules for drawn matches should be revised though. Surely with no points for a draw, preparing greentops is effectively being encouraged.

How long until McDermott comes into international contention. Surely with a sub-24 average in both ODD and FC matches he's worth a look in?

well if QLD decide to pick a spinner in the final instead of 4 quicks, McDermott is the one who should miss out. so there's your answer.

I was more talking about the shorter form. QLD has a lot of gun quicks going around at the moment:

Harris
Maggoffin
Cutting
McDermott
Feldman

and given this, the fact that Boyce is deserving of a regular spot is a huge tick to him as well.

Crazy that this could be cut so close to the match. Fox Sports have been advertising the Shield Final for quite some time. In saying that, I'll probably watch more of the action now that it's on the web.

FoxSports now showing the final, will still be a stream. Everyone's a winner

There's a 2nd XI match between VIC and NSW happening right now. Hill and Keith made tons. It's a fairly strong-ish bowling attack from NSW, seems to be a bowl-off for contract spots. Lalor, Alex McLean, Nic Bills, Abbott and Teh **** are all playing in it, along with Doran and Zampa. And Vic 2nd XI made 5/493....

So with that said, what fast bowlers are you contracting guys?
Currently senior/CA
Doug Bollinger
Burt ****ley
Trent Copeland
Patrick Cummins - likely CA -
Josh Hazlewood
Mitchell Starc - maybe CA -

Rookies

Sean Abbott
Nic Bills
Timm Van Der Gugten

No contract
Chris Tremain
Josh Lalor
Scott Coyte

And I dunno know some of the kids in the U19 and grade guys should be considered I guess

Would be picking Tremain ahead of the three rookies TBH.

that's their current situations ftr, except for the - maybe CA - **** which I forgot to take out. This was Van Der Gugten's 2nd season as a rookie so he's out next season, Bills and Abbott might stick around but I dunno know. Tremain will obviously get a contract, just whether it's a rookie or a full. You'd think we'd only have room for one of Coyte and Lalor so that'll be interesting. And of course other states might try to get some of those. Zampa will probably lose his rookie contract too, and Doran will probably go elsewhere if he doesn't get one again.

Anyway, more important matters - Does anyone give QLD much of a chance?

If we bowl first, I think we have a shot, but honestly I don't trust our top order enough to post competitive scores in both innings. I read a report that the game will likely be a grind and should last the 5 days. If QLD are any chance it will be over within 3 1/2 in my opinion.

the squads ftr: Queensland squad: James Hopes (c), Cameron Boyce, Joe Burns, Ben Cutting, Luke Feldman, Ryan Harris, Chris Hartley, Alex Kemp, Chris Lynn, Steve Magoffin, Alister McDermott, Andrew Robinson, Wade Townsend (13)

Tasmania squad: Alex Doolan, Brendan Drew, Tom Triffitt, Mark Cosgrove, Jeremy Smith, Matt Johnston, Ricky Ponting, Ed Cowan, Nick Kruger, Steve Cazzulino, Jackson Bird, Luke Butterworth, James Faulkner, Jason Krejza (14)

I really don't think you should put down a road. I just don't see the batting line-up doing what's expected.
but now that i've said that townsend or some **** will score a double

International Vice-Captain
Ricky Ponting alone makes Tasmania such a stronger side on paper. It should be a cracking contest as both sides have some clear weak links.

Ah, that makes more sense.

Coyte can **** off back to grade, TVDG isn't good enough yet - he needs more grade games for 2-3 years I guess. Tremain will definitely come in, yeah. If Hauritz goes, I think Doran will stay on with a full-time contract.

Didn't see Bills during the year - does he look any good? Abbott can go play for the Thunder for the rest of his career. He's useless for anything greater than that IMO.

Given the BBL, I wouldn't be hugely surprised to see Lalor picked up by WA - he could replace Mark Cameron, who's career is surely over after missing another full season to injury.

Gives you a FC fast bowling unit of: Starc, Hazelwood, Bollinger, Copeland, Tremain, Cummins, ****ley, Bills, Random young guy from grade #26.

Surely by next year they'll all be injured though, and we'll be calling on an attack of Coyte, van der Gugten and Copeland to get us through the end of the season...

Mark Cameron has retired.

Coyte took that 6 fer in the one dayer plus he was fair on his return to Sheild - doubt he'll get axed.

Don't think things are looking good for Bills and van der Gugten though, reckon Bills might have been overtaken in the pecking order by his grade teammate (who's name escapes me right now).
