Bradman Reincarnated??????

Athlai

Not Terrible
Warner is not a slogger. He's pretty much totally technically orthodox, other than the switch hit. Plays very straight and is good on the cut and pull.

In limited overs cricket when he gets in, he is more likely to play across the line to deliveries, but that's the nature of the game.

Saying he's a slogger is a total mistruth, and you either don't know what a slogger is or you haven't watched Warner close enough.
Yeah Warner outside of T20 where it's the name of the game is nowhere near a slogger.

Depends on what your definition of a slogger is. He plays premeditated shots, swings across the line even at the early stages of his innings, leaves a big enough gap between bat and pad, flashes hard outside the off stump with minimal foot movement. Not saying that thats all he does and he has problems in his technique, but he slogs a lot in LOIs and will tend to get out more on deliveries where he is playing the wrong kind of shot to up the scoring rate

looks like bradman's last knock ftr

warner is a lofter at times, rather than a slogger. Bradman by all reports was not a lofter.

The most impressive thing I ever read about Bradman was a story about when he decided to hit each delivery around the field. Peircing point, then cover, extra cover and so on. Just checked a couple of books and can't find it now, so disappointing.

Bradman rated his 254 at Lords as his best innings because every shot went exactly where he intended it to go. That's probably what you had in mind?

I'm really sketchy on this, but I read it somewhere, maybe at the museum but I'm thinking in a book. Was a memory of a fielder, or opposition captain, and Bradman said he was going to do it, and then did. I'm thinking first class match, not test match so I don't think it's that innings. Was so bored decided to hit each ball one after the other all around the field in order and there was nothing they could do about it.

Tried googling and so forth but no luck

Bish please. You can't read.

During his century at Perth Warner hit several length balls outside off for 6 between mid-on and mid-wicket. This has also been his go-to shot whenever I have seen him in T20, but probably still most famously on debut against South Africa. I like to call that shot a slog, dunno about y'all.

Certainly has a good range of shots but loves the random mow for 6 out of nowhere more than most, mostly because he's gun at it.

Just because Warner has a swinging arc that is more expansive than alot of players it doesn't mean it's a slog. When set he'll swing hard to get under length deliveries, that's not a slog though. He doesn't have in his head 'I'm going to hit this ball to mid wicket no matter where it is'.

Actually watch him in more than one or two innings, if it's full and straight he'll play with a straight bat and drive. If they give him width and length he'll cut. Just because someone hits hard doesn't make them a slogger.

Yeah and sometimes if it's on a goodish line and length he pumps it over wide long-on for 6. I think it's a matter of semantics, I still call that a slog, but I understand that he hits them clean with a simple and effective technique. I'm not hating, but I'd still call it a slog. Can understand if you don't like the term because it's used pejoratively. For mine if you hit leg-side 6s off the front-foot which can't comfortably be called a pull, hook, on-drive etc, then you're in slog territory.

lofted on drive

head over the ball and still

feet, legs, body, arms all moving towards the ball

compared to a slog - head goes back, hands go towards the ball & everything else follows the head

warner's biggest weakness imo is the ball moving back towards him from outside off. needs to learn to tuck around the corner better.

Hitting with an at least partially cross-bat wide of mid-on from a ball outside off is certainly not a textbook lofted on drive imo.

Your definition of a slog is just a definition of a terrible shot where the batsman probably misses the ball. You can have a heave while still keeping your head still and your weight going in the right direction. Some people are much better sloggers than others.

Warner may bat similarly to the Don, but he's obviously not in the same class as Bradman.
Very similar, give him a little more time

I have not seen Bradman - but from what I have heard he was not like Warner.
Bradman - I thought was ruthlessly efficient on bad deliveries and would refrain from hitting the ball in the air unless it was a no ball. Most of Warner's innings (didn't see his last 100) have involved expansive aerial play.

I dislike Warner's style of play as it is somewhat sloggy for want of a better description and if he is truly like how Bradman used to be I will stop hero worshipping him (Bradman).
Well I have seen Bradman on a number of occasions in Tests and Shield games and Warner is the closest I have ever seen to bat like him.I personally don't see him reaching the heights of Bradman because the game itself has evolved so much. However, and I'll stick my neck out here, we will see him emerge(Warner), as one of the greats

The caveat to my answer is that David's game seems to be evolving as we watch it especially in the ODI area so he could turn out to be a different player in a year from now. And again I also recognise that I did not see his last century which I understand to be somewhat of a different
(slower) inning.
The more it evolves the better he will become
