Looks like they're talking about Nicol attacking from his opening position. Tbh he's probably as likely to get out defending as attacking so if he could edge 20 or so runs into the gaps that would be decent. Expectations are low.

Yusss bowling first!

Hopefully we can get 3 or 4 wickets. You'd back Martin to get Smith out.
Not gonna back anything to happen of a positive nature for this NZ team.

The conditions are stacked in their favour = means they'll not use them well.

Southee to over play his hand.

Ellis is 12th man. Phew.
The downside to this is that he can't perform poorly and dropped, so his presence will linger. I guess the great hope is that he can made look like an idiot in ODIs and get dropped based on that before he plays a Test.

Massive advantage to the kiwis winning this toss. You wonder if the match has been decided already as it sometimes is if one team receives a massive advantage with the prevailing conditions. NZ with four seamers looks to have a powerful line-up, especially with Tahir instead of de Lange weakening the SA bowling attack.

NZ must be super strong favourites. Smith will go early against Martin as he usually does against left-handers so it will up to the rest of the line-up to provide some steel.

They will be looking for Steyn and co. to bail them out if they get rolled for a low total.

Both teams have long tails.

You're loco. Poor attempt at an anti-jinx?

Not entirely convinced that bowling first is the best idea - while I would say it plays to our relative strength, the ball doesn't tend to swing when it's cold and wet.

If you really believe all that, go and put all the spare cash you have on New Zealand to win right now.

It's better than batting first but yeah, will wait with baited breath to see if there is swing around.

I don't bet.

The bottom line is that NZ will never be handed a better opportunity against a SA team whose players haven't had a warm-up match in first class cricket. And the kiwi bowlers will be able to go hell for leather knowing that it's such a truncated day. So absolutely no excuses for the kiwis not to win here in their own conditions.

If SA do lose under Smith, given their super success under AB, you wonder if they will finally promote one of their promising young openers like Edgar.

Doull says it's a terrible day to be bowling and he is very surprised we are bowling first.
All the rest disagree.
Given that he expect the pitch to get slower and slower maybe Steyn and co. won't be a factor during this match at all.
