Ajmal vs Swann

I have only seen people make that expression in one situation in my life, and that's when they play peekaboo with 2 year old kids.

I don't think Swann would've done as well as Ajmal and co against the English batsmen tbh. Ajmal is way better than Swann. Swann's obviously #2 atm. Anyone who takes Swann over Ajmal if we were to play a match tomorrow is English or GingerFurball
Well you convinced me, blinding logic.

I don't think Swann would've done as well against the English batsmen in the UAE because his style of bowling is not tailored to those conditions as much as Ajmal's is.

I definitely know which one I'd pick in Australia, England, NZ or SA. And that's basically half the world's Test playing nations. Take Ajmal in the other half.

It's not definitive either way.
Agree with Sparkly. :p

Not really over prioritizing this one series. Just consider it a more valid comparison when they are bowing together than when they are in different series in different conditions. Atleast thats my opinion.
That's not the point though - the fact they're playing in the same conditions makes direct comparisons much easier, as you don't have to compensate for all the **** you have to when you try and compare series that happen six months apart on different continents

edit: **** me i can't spell today.
There's no doubt that comparing results over a series in a same conditions is slightly more likely to be fair than comparing results over two different series, but my point is that both methods are still completely and utterly terrible, and that judging players by one series against different opposition is ridiculous whether they're playing on the same pitch or not.

You will never see Ajmal and Swann against the same opposition, in the same weather conditions and in the same pitch conditions. This is the best we can hope for in terms of a comparison. And I would rank Pakistan and England about the same in terms of playing spin. The problem was that it took Pieterson a lot longer to adjust to the spin than it took Younis Khan.

No; the best we can hope for in terms of comparison is, you know, actually taking their whole careers into account and not just one series.

As I said, I have no problems with people thinking Ajmal is better than Swann and I no definitive opinion either way on it as it's really close, but acting as if this series gone is some sort of undeniable proof merely because they both happened to be playing in it ignores a plethora of problems.

We still need to see how Swann plays India and Sri Lanka in the subcontinent and how Ajmal plays India in the subcontinent. Problem is that Ajmal might never play against India.

Swann, without a doubt. :)

Just the Farhat ball alone, Off spin at its finest.

Ajmal, I fear, is heading down the Saqlain route. (too over-reliant on the doosra, will affect his ability to land his off break, may lead to his exit from the game farther down the line)

Swann is apparently the world's leading wicket taker this year. Often a bit of a useless stat given the disparity in Tests played by different sides etc, but it did surprise me as he's not been at his best for large parts of this year.

South African test series is huge for Ajmal. Herath, Bhajji and Swann all had reasonable time on their last trips to SA so no reason for Ajmal to not to perform.

there is always something about Pakistani spinners not performing against South Africa while the rest of the world spinners make merry against them

It all started back in 1996 when South Africans swept the **** out of Mushy

I remember something like 4 or 5 boundaries in one of Mushy's overs and all on the sweep shot I think

both Mushy and Kaneria have contributed to a test win in South Africa no reason for Ajmal to not do it albeit SA is probably the better batting line up now then what they were in 98 or 2006.

Tbf Mushy was bowling with Waqar and Shoaib while Kaneria had Asif and Shoaib. Ajmal will probably have Wahab Riaz and Cheema:ph34r:
