It's not sheer impatience that's the problem here (he's always been stupidly pegged as a boozehound who "only knows one way"). Jesse will in fact block and leave and play an innings at a 50-60 SR quite happily. However, the lack of a shrewd and calculating game sense is still a bit of an issue (another glaring example of it in Rangiora just four days ago, albeit in a four-dayer).
If they're going to bat him at 5 I'll be surprised if we don't see him outthought by opposing captains and some really awful dismissals in the 20's and 30's overs, interspersed with enough 'icing on the cake', 'rescue act' innings to keep him in the side.

Five years or so ago he admitted to Wgtn guys he found middle-order batting in limited overs games very difficult.Ryder batting 4 or 5 makes sense anyway because he's a middle order batsman. The insistence on him batting in the top 3 in limited overs cricket is one of the reasons (aside from the obvious) that his record there doesn't come close to matching his talent (especially domestically), IMO. He may not to lightning between the wickets but - when he's batting well, anyway - he's one of the best in the country at manoeuvring good deliveries for ones and twos, and once he gets set he can really launch. It's the perfect blueprint for a 4-6 OD bat; he's too good to just be told to just hit boundaries at the top until he gets out.
