Bruins' winning blueprint could force other NHL teams to toughen up

The Vancouver Canucks are one team that ran right into the mean streak the Bruins have and are likely to use in any time of crisis. It wasn’t pretty and it’s extremely difficult for the fan base to digest when your team is loaded with Euros and gets run over to the point where bodies are falling like bowling pins.

Take a look at Saturday’s game. Sure, the Canucks won, but they still lost two guys to significant injuries. How long can any team sustain this casualty rate before deciding it’s time to goon up.

Canucks GM Mike Gillis says he is trying to follow the Detroit model and that is certainly the case, but even the Wings had Darren McCarty, a younger Tomas Holmstrom and Brendan Shanahan, the latter for three of their four Cups.
