Currently who is the best player of spin in Tests?

chicane

State Captain
I think presently there's nothing tougher on a spinner than Virender Sehwag. Also deserving mention are Chanderpaul and Bravo Jr. Tipping Ukmal to be damn good too.

I'd also put Dhoni up there, he's brutal on spinners.

Yeah I reckon Clarke is easily the best from Australia anyway. I always feel uncomfortable when Sehwag's facing one of our spinners too.

Sehwag,Younis Khan, Sanga and Amla are clearly ahead of the pack. Michal Clarhe has had 2 very ordinary tours of India was good this time in SL but needs to do more to rebuild on that legacy which he had developed early on in his career.
Can't use Sanga in that list unless you have Samaraweera and Jayawardene in it. Those two are the best players of spin in SL, with Samaraweera a touch ahead of Jayawardene.

Yeah I actually think Sangakarra is a better player of pace than spin. Definitely behind Samaraweera and Jayawardene in the spin-playing stakes despite being a much better batsman overall.

Think Mahela is better than Samaraweera at playing spin, but yeah, those two are probably the best we have. Don't really rate Sanga very highly against a ball spinning away from him.

Wasn't the biggest fan of Clarke before he came down here and basically proved he was capable of playing spin that way. I think he's among the better ones around at the very least.

Hmmm you saying that based on what? I mean I don't have stats or anything to prove my point either, was just thinking of some of his knocks played in tricky conditions and circumstances...

Not a fan of stats myself, just my judgement based on how he plays. Mahela just appears a bit more comfortable against spin than everyone else in the team. Perhaps its the way he sort of works the ball around his front pad and how he seems able to place the ball wherever he wants to for most part. Just a gut feeling that he has a bit more quality based on the way he plays.

The reason I put Sehwag and Clarke in their own category is because whilst the others are fine players of spin, those two are without doubt the most destructive players of spin and by far the hardest to bowl to (largely due to their footwork)
Sehwag's feet move?

Clarke's good, but I wouldn't call in the best player of spin currently. He's been rubbish in his last 2 tours of India, particularly the one in 2010 where he literally came down the pitch every ball just to defend it. Everyone was like "ohh he's using is feet blah blah" but really he was out of it.
IThe latter half of 2010 was not a good time for Clarke really.

Now if only he could start using his feet more against pacers I'd rate him much more highly than I do at present.

But that footwork was good.

Sehwag definitely the best player of spin in the Indian team after Sachin. As was mentioned earlier - doesn't get to face it often :p. Remember he is a middle order batsman and only reluctantly became an opener.
