IPL5 Auction

IIRC Pakistani players were up for auction last year too but were not bid for. So not really a government issue but the sentiment was against picking Pakistani cricketers.
Don't think it has that much to do with sentiment tbh. The whole situation from every angle is unclear whether it be the PCB, BCCI or the Indian government.

And the Franchisees don't want to take a punt on something that has no clarity.

One of the reasons Pakistani's weren't picked was because of their safety. There were threats by extremists and I remember SRK saying, that the threats had made him not pick Pakistani players.

The Pakistanis were in the auction in 2009 but did not get picked (it was the IPL after the Mumbai terrorist attacks) and they haven't been in the auction's since. I believe they have been banned, but I'm not 100% certain.

Good to see Dougie taken. Good to see Southee not taken. He should be playing in the CC, the ****.

Chris Gayle - Royal Challengers Bangalore, $550,000

Whaaaaat

Is Gayle able to end his contract? Surely if he was able to be bidded for he'd get more than anyone.

I wouldn't bet on it. Nobody bid on him in the last auction. These ****s can be pretty spastic.
Nobody bid on him in the last auction because he was still part of the West Indies side and their series against Pakistan clashed with the IPL. The franchises seem to have caught onto the fact that splurging an enormous amount of your budget on players who won't be available for a good chunk of the season isn't a particularly prudent move - hence why virtually no England players have contracts.

Young unproven LO specialist settled for life, just like that. Pretty hard to resist concentrating on T20 with money like that flying around.
How is he "unproven" when he was probably the best bowler in the last champions league? and i wouldn't be so sure of him even going anymore after the stunning performance he put on last night for Trinidad in a four day match HERE , i think the WICB have some thinking to do!! .

Will he work well as a bowler without the other spinners he had for support in the CL? He had great support from other spinners and the added pressure on the batsmen made facing his variations difficult. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets belted around when he is the only spinner in the side.

Well I guess that depends on your definition of 'unproven'.

Never said he's a bad bowler or not promising ftr.
