That;s what I understand it to mean - sledging = abuseI have no idea when sledging became synonymous with abuse, but it's misguided tstl.

Urban dictionary ftwSledging 69 up, 11 down
Sledging or "Mental Disintergration" as it is also known is the tactic of talking to players on the opposition side (particularily batsmen, as taking on a whole team in the field is never a good idea) with the objective of destroying either their concentration or their confidence/self esteem. Sledging is practised in a large way by the Australian Cricket Team, but most International teams partake in sledging. Sledging can be merely an opposition player talking constantly to the batsman, but has mostly become known as players swearing and questioning their lineage.
Sport =/= forum posting. All those who are supporting abuse here should be allowed to be sworn at any of the threads on any topic for (or without) any reason by anyone (or by a group of conspirators) without causing any infractions/bans IMO.
Surely you aren't referencing urban dictionary in a discussion? 10 times worse than Wikipedia.Urban dictionary ftw

Slightly more prestigious than doing what Benchy was suggesting though tbf, especially since his suggestion would only leave me with yet another fat ho.benchmark00's sister is a fat ho tho i mean it's hardly prestigious
Maintain your concentration.LOL this thread is the greatest of all time.
PEWS giving open license to be targeted in any forum at any time = a priceless moment.
Look @Spikey - if it was a rugby game and you swore at me it would be a mistake because it would just fire me up to crush you in a tackle. That game is all about aggression.
What am i supposed to do when I get fired up after being sworn at cricket - do my next forward defence with extra authority? If I try to belt the bowler I am playing into his hands.
uh knuckle down? don't acknowledge it? Go about your game as per usual? So pretty much don't get fired up. That's playing right into his hands.LOL this thread is the greatest of all time.

Yeah, basically. Similar sort of jibe really fired me up once. Next ball was a bouncer... and usually I didn't hook quicks ever, but that one went for four.Ok I am glad we got to defining it because I think lot of the disagreement here is because people are defining it differently.
Planned sledging is unacceptable.
However sledging in the heat of the moment is fine. And the sledging I was referring to was usually restricted to a jibe about cricketing skills. For example when I went into bat, I had the fielders saying how they only need about 5 people on the field for me because I wouldn't be able to cross the circle...(according to them )
