Interesting point, actually.

Worth noting here that Bell missed the whole of the Pakistan series in 2010, which was arguably the last really decent attack we faced and it was probably quite a good career move that he did.

Only really Trott, Broad and Prior emerged from that series with (batting) reps enhanced and (hey!) they're the same chaps who've stood up this time too (plus Cook).
Yep. But I think Amir/Asif in England would have been too good for pretty much any batting lineup whereas the Indian, Sri Lankan and Australian lineups would have dealt with the type of bowling in this series an awful lot better.

Let's not forget Perth or Trent Bridge either.

Johannesburg not all that long ago either, it is hardly surprising that this happens when faced with good bowling, it is true for any side in the world, this result as you say is rather different.

We saw that Australia would struggle against Asif and Amir in that very same summer, still think Australia have more long term batting problems than England, but I guess we will find out next year.

England are certainly brittle against high-class bowling of any kind. Their steel is in the top order, frankly, not the middle, so a few wickets can easily precipitate a collapse under the right conditions.

Even India got you to 6/****-all on two occasions - but that was definitely high-quality bowling.

Pietersen has demonstrated plenty in his career that he can play high-class bowling very well. Prior also.

I'm aware of that, and Prior/Broad etc have done plenty of rescue jobs but I'm becoming increasingly convinced that KP just isn't the same batsman any more. Either way, he's been right in the middle of a fair few collapses in the last two years or so.

Really?

Strauss - basically crap since 2009 Ashes against all types of bowling
Cook - frequently clueless when the ball swings
Trott - went to pot in SA & generally crap on wickets offering any real pace & bounce

Warner 1 big score against that Indian attack and rest all failures is batting well is he?

Can't wait to see him fail against Broad and Anderson. Seeing as our problems are against spin and you only have Lyon then we should be fine for some big scores like last winter. urn will remain in England hands for both the next 2 series of that i have no doubt.
Only time will tell. He loves batting against the pace of bowlers such as Broad and Anderson...the sixers will come quicker. Tough times ahead for the poms:laugh::laugh::laugh:

I didn't realise anyone in real life actually said "sixer".

OT but I reckon Warner will be fine against Broad and Anderson. Might get out early, but might smash them around a bit too. He has an extraordinary eye and hands, and isn't troubled by seam movement as much as you might expect from someone who plays like him.

Swann, however...

And no, your problems are against quality bowling full stop.
And are Australia's aren't, infact who's side doesn't.
Personally think Warner and Cowan if he's still playing, will struggle in England.

Clarke, Ponting, Warner, Hussey are batting well. Hopefully we can continue and build a huge innings with our top batsmen and then the bowlers take over for a 3 day result. Sounds g:laugh: :laugh:d
Lets be right about it, Ponting hasn't been able to string a decent series together in years before he scored runs against India, before the series started the biggest favor India could do for us, would be to keep Ponting in the side till the Ashes. Hussey won't be too flash over here never has been averages 31 imo, Clarke will go alright depending on his form as the last Ashes showed same goes for everyone mind.

Oh the key reason England lost is simple, Bresnan wasn't playing, played 10 won 10 can't get away from those stats.

TBF does Pietersen have 10 runs in the series yet? I'm thinking no
He got 14 in the second test first innings, lowest average though.

From a purely selfish Irish perspective, I'd love Morgan to be ditched and welcome him back if he can return. Ridiculous if he was chopped though given other performances. I will refuse to see why Morgan is the focus over players who have previously travelled the subcontinent and should do better..

Morgan is the focus as he's been by far the worst of the batsmen and also has a lot less credit behind him for past performances (in that he hasn't really had many if any whereas the other middle order players all had extremely good performances in 2011)

Andy Flower should bat at no. 4. Gooch will do well as an opener, too.
