As awesome as Novak is, you always feel there is a mental fragility there to exploit. He has improved that aspect of his game exponentially, but you still feel like the opponent always has an opening if they can put enough pressure on him (as Hewitt showed the other night).

Does anyone know what Novak's breathing problems are about? Seriously he has been indicating the same things throughout his entire career. Has he actually discussed them before in a press conference? Are they a cheap ploy he uses when he is on the back foot or are they legit?

He had surgery 5-6 years back due to breathing problems with his nose, and he spoke in his press conference after the Ferrer match about having a congested nose the past day or so. Also, if you're watching, it's pretty clear imo it's not a cheap ploy at all, bloke looks absolutely exhausted.

Apparently he can't afford nasal spray.

Ah fair enough. Yeah I wouldn't like to assume he would play such poor tactics, but sometimes he seemingly comes back from nowhere after apparently struggling with his fitness. Also I don't really see how having a congested nose would make you feel so exhausted...when you are really pushing it you breath through your mouth anyway. Maybe the guy just doesn't have the natural endurance of the other top players.

Really? Not ever noticed how say, when you have a blocked nose, and you do something physical, you wear out quicker?

Well no tbh. Studies have shown as well having a cold doesn't affect your exercise performance.
Has nothing to do with performance, has to do with endurance and duration you can perform.

If you take out 50% of your breathing mechanisms ofcourse you're going to reduce the amount of oxygen you're going to get into your body.
