I have been giving some thought to how it would work if NZ were to join Aussies FC structure. Clearly we would only be able to enter 2 teams. Auk ND and CD in one team. Wel, CTB, Otago in the other.

While our top 22 players were competing in the Aussie comp - our other players would still play "FC" cricket representing the 6 different associations. Yes this would lower the standard of domestic FC by taking away the 22 top players. But the benefit to the 22 players should better prepare us for test cricket against the top nations. This may not be the perfect time to suggest this after we actually won a test. But I still think the change would be beneficial for players like Southee who is too good for NZ FC cricket but inconsistent at the highest level.

If I were in charge of NZ domestic cricket this is what I would do.

The downside I see is with only 22 players playing the highest FC standard possible, it reduces our player pool considerably unless we are willing to select from the Plunket Shield, which defeats the point of playing SS in the first place.

Look at the likely teams (based on who I think they would pick)

Peter Ingram/Tim McIntosh/Brad Wilson/Jamie How
BJ Watling
Daniel Flynn
Mathew Sinclair
James Marshall
Colin de Grandhomme
Kruger van Wyk (wk)
Tarun Nethula
Daryl Tuffey/Ben Wheeler/Adam Milne/Michael Bates/Kyle Mills/Andre Adams/Brent Arnel
Daryl Tuffey/Ben Wheeler/Adam Milne/Michael Bates/Kyle Mills/Andre Adams/Brent Arnel
Daryl Tuffey/Ben Wheeler/Adam Milne/Michael Bates/Kyle Mills/Andre Adams/Brent Arnel

and

Craig Cumming
Rob Nicol/Stephen Murdoch
Peter Fulton
Neil Broom
James Franklin
Luke Woodcock
Sam Wells
Derek de Boorder (wk)
Todd Astle/Jeetan Patel
Neil Wagner
Andy McKay
Hamish Bennett

We already know what the majority of those players are capable of, and at least in the Plunket Shield we know if a new player can stick it to some of those guys then they're worth a look. In the Sheffield Shield, all we would learn is which Australians are better than them.

I'd much rather see a proper A team program rather than the bits and bobs here and there that we have now, and create a window where the Black Caps play Plunket Shield, instead of scheduling them to play the HRV Cup.

Roughly:

1.Martin Guptill
2.Daniel Flynn
3.Kane Williamson
4.Ross Taylor (c)
5.Matthew Sinclair
6.Daniel Vettori
7.BJ Watling+/Van Wyk
8.Doug Bracewell
9.Tim Southee
10.Trent Boult
11.Adam Milne

1.Brendon McCullum
2.Rob Nicol
3.Jesse Ryder
4.Neil Broom
5.Dean Brownlie
6.James Franklin/Sam Wells
7.Reece Young+/De Boorder+
8.Todd Astle
9.Neil Wagner
10.Matt Henry
11.Andy Mckay
Those sides wouldn't actually play though, unless we created a window.

Latham went a bit crazy there. Next coming of the messiah no doubt. 130 (119)
Very exciting player and prospect. Only seen him in a 20 20 but was mesmerized during his knock.

Don't understand why he is only averaging 25 in FC.

Averaging 50 now in List A in only a few games.(8 innings)

Gotta agree. Seen him stuff all but what I did see was exceptional. Temperament was excellent and shots all around the ground.

Is he seen as middle order or as an opener?

He's only played a few FC games hasn't he?

Never seen him, but I hope he's the goods. Would be good to see yet another quality graduate from our two recent under 19 world cup sides.

I hope he's a **** **** tbh, because I'm just that kind of sadistic arsehole.

And because he plays for Canterbury.

I don't know what they see him as - in some games where young played as keeper they left him out altogether so he needs to probably put up his hand for any position in the batting order at this stage. Some games at 5 or 6 and some games opening.
13 innings now Flem so he should be doing better.
I can't really post online what I would say around my cricket team mates when it comes to his technique and clean striking. But I hope he keeps going well. Hopefully he can supplant Shannon stewart and take his spot in the batting line up.

He and Boam would be the bright hopes. I would say Boam has the numbers behind him though.

Wouldn't mind Wellington giving their younger players more of a crack, since nothing else seems to be working. Such a frustrating team. They have the players to be really good, but just never seem to bring it home.
