If Marsh goes to the Windies it's a joke and someone like Brad Hodge would be rightfully pissed off. Can't believe that Mickey Arthur thinks he's the most special young batsman he's ever seen.:-O

Someone who has retired from First Class cricket would be pissed off? Really?

Looking at it critically, though, we unfortunately haven't learnt as much/improved where we'd wanted to as much as we'd like wrt batting. The running joke before this series was that this batting lineup was carried by Clarke - Hussey and Ponting have obviously put their hands up big time in this series but the concern remains that we're asking a hell of a lot of our middle order. Too much on a long term basis. Clarke having an ATG series means this isn't an issue this time ofc (as well as Ponting/Hussey)

Pretty sure Brad Hodge gets pissed off about well just about anything. He even got pissed off when he got dropped for Damien Martyn instead of a New South Welshmen

(cause it meant he couldn't be pissed off about....)

Agree but he was short-changed when you consider the largesse extended to some.

Really I think most of us are just about content with the amount of games Hodge played for aus

Not really. I do think that given time his average would have dropped into the mid-40s but **** me he'd have been faaaaaaaar better than Symonds/North which is what we put up with instead.

But again, this is an argument for four years ago.

Only raise it because I know Mickey Mouse will be defending his love-child at selection committees and in recent times there's been a lot of leniency shown to non-performing batsmen.

So do people think that Cowan is a long-term prospect?

I had a similar problem with Cowan as with Marsh, simply not enough fc runs. Problem is that with Hughes having not stepped up there just aren't any other openers out there unless you go to the pensioners like Kat, Jaques and Rogers.

I think he's shown enough to get some more chances on that basis. If there were more options around you might be a bit less lenient.

Aussie top order looks good, Windies will think they can do early damage every innings. Be interesting to see Warner away from home and how he copes.

Well batted Kohli saw a bit of it, some lovely shots. keep him in, add Rohit Sharma and drop Laxman. Maybe even pick Rahane for Dravid too.

He's had two half tons tbf, and has batted time. Warner's ton in Perth overshadowed Cowan's dig - it was top shelf too.

Warner is going to be facing up to lots of spinners until he just trusts his eye and puts a few of the ****s into the crowd. You can bet the Windies will be onto it. He has to make em pay or he's going to really struggle.

Yeah just like Khawaja. But like Uzi he needs to start converting his starts. Hopefully he gets more time than Khawaja (and without anyone bashing the door he probably will), but equally he needs to probably get that ton in the Caribbean or his spot will be seriously under threat come next Summer.
