Wasn't he coaching when we lost the Steve Waugh century Test to England?Duncan Fletcher maintains his 100% record in Australia
Yes actually. Took over around 1999 I think.Wasn't he coaching when we lost the Steve Waugh century Test to England?

Yeah; Hilfenhaus is a new ball bowler and Pattinson is an old ball bowler. No surprises there.Hilfy owns top-order batsman.

never say never...they drilled through the rock at the bottom effortlessly...this team may still have some suprises left...Drop Sehwag imo. Dravid opens and Laxman bats 3. Rohit comes in at 6. It's not like we can do any worse.
Btw what are peoples thoughts on dead rubber matches? Treat them like any other match, or use them to experiment a little with team changes?
Every Test is sacred IMO.Btw what are peoples thoughts on dead rubber matches? Treat them like any other match, or use them to experiment a little with team changes?
Yeah but a dead rubber match is a great opportunity to give opportunities to newer players. Lyon needs a game. 4 man pace attack is simply not a viable long term option. You are not going to play in Perth every time, bowlers are going to get injured, conditions are going to change. Also, for the long run, you want a spinner in your side..and I don't know who that spinner is but if the think tank feels its Lyon, then he needs games under his belt.Ofcourse you try and win like any other match.
Developing a winning culture is the most important thing in team sport.
But there is trying to win, and trying to win though. E.g. if you really wanted to win in Adelaide, no doubt you'd play Harris. But because it is a dead rubber, there might be a stronger-than-normal inclination to rest Harris, and debut someone else who is promising (e.g. NCN.)Ofcourse you try and win like any other match.

If Adelaide dictates that 3 pacemen plus a spinner is the best mix, then you do that.Yeah but a dead rubber match is a great opportunity to give opportunities to newer players. Since when has Australia been in the business of giving away debuts for fun?But there is trying to win, and trying to win though. benchmark on point here. We've suddenly had success by *gasp* picking the best XI in the country, why on earth would you want to change that philosophy now?Since when has Australia been in the business of giving away debuts for fun?
You've got to earn it.
