ICC Combined Associate and Affiliate (AM) XI v England. January 7-9, 2012

England have declared. Presumably they don't want the bowlers batting in the heat, and feel they need another bowl.

Or maybe they want to take away some of the legitimacy of this game now they're losing.

Assuming a) a lead for the ICC & b) England not bowling them out cheaply, will the Ass/affs have the cojones to set a target?

EDIT: The lead now a given with the declaration. Interesting.

Yeah, more than a hint of "we're not taking this that seriously" about this. Either that or they want to maxmimize the time they get to actually bat again and bat properly.

Makes sense, gives the bowlers another go and gets more rustiness off. Also means the top order should bat again tomorrow and depending on how long left we can not bat Cook and give todays failures another go.

Hamid Hassan has gone to hospital for an x-ray. Dockerell has "officially" replaced Hassan now according to the commentators, so the ICCXI will have three spinners in the 4th innings. Does that infringe this game's FC status?

No less than a Championship game where the test 12th man replaces the junior bowler.

Not Terrible
Yeah seen a NZ player bugger off halfway through the match to go play a Test and get officially replaced. Must be just something both sides have to agree to.

ICC laws state that if both captains and umpires agree to it, a player (that has been injured, or has to leave suddenly in an emergency situation (e.g. on-call doctor)) can be replaced by another player 'officially'. Meaning that they can bat and bowl, unlike a substitute.

Lets face it, England would come across as being a right bunch of ***** if they refused Dockrell the chance to replace Hamid. Sensible thing done all round, hope the young lad isn't injured too badly.

I have absolutely no problem with Dockrell repalcing Hassan. It'd just be a terrible shame (mainly for the Ass/aff chaps) if the match's first-class status was compromised because of it. It looks as though the common sense approach has been taken, so kudos to all concerned. An underrated virtue, IMHO.

Anyway, one run off the bat in six overs. Has the pitch livened up a little?

Really good of England to allow Dockrell to have a go.

Really hope this is a permanent fixture. Great opportunity to see the likes of Hamid against the best in the world. Only wish it was a proper 5 day match being televised. :(
