Yeah, they are the sons of Mark Rushmere (Michael and Andrew). The Shaakir Abrahams is the nephew of SA selector Shafiek.

The traditional powerhouses of Border cricket have always been Selborne, Dale and Queens like you say with Selborne but Hudson Park have been the strongest cricketing school in the Border region for the last 4 to 5 years or so...however funny that sounds. They get invited to the prestigous Michaelmas Week every year.

i think itl set a terrible precedent if that does happen. Places must be earned. Remember kieswetter? Looked a gun at youth level, but thought the world revolves around him. Plays for england now, still looks like a gun?

Niels Momberg, Ray Jennings and Anton Ferreira are excited by this crop of players.

The strongest teams on paper should be Cobras, Dolphins and Titans. I think there will be quite a few from their teams playing franchise cricket.

Knights have a very young squad with Cloete,Rosier and Dry the standouts. Lions key players will be DeKock and Pillay and Rhoda possibly. Warriors two opening bowlers Nortje and Nqweni are impressive.

But I don't think performances or lack of performances at this week will get or not get you into the SA u19 side as most of these guys go to SA u19 training camps throughout the whole year.

Captains lead by example at Cubs Week

It was a day for the captains on the opening day of Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) Franchise Cubs Week held in Stellenbosch. The respective captains of the Chevrolet Warriors and Sunfoil Dolphins; Edward Moore and Chad Bowes, both scored unbeaten centuries to steer their sides to victories in their respective matches.

Moore (128*) lead his side to a 96-run victory over the Chevrolet Knights. The left handed batsman faced 147 deliveries as he hit eleven fours and a maximum while batting through his side’s complete innings. Moore and Marcello Piedt (26) shared an invaluable 86-run partnership over the eighth wicket.

The Warriors, who won the toss and elected to bat were in trouble after losing two batsmen Michael Rushmere (0) and Aubrey Ferreira (4) at the hands of South African Schools’ pace man, Corné Dry in the first over of the match. Dry’s second delivery was a wide, but he rearranged Rushmere’s stumps with the very next delivery. Ferreira struck a four of the second delivery he faced, but his stumps also stood askew after the last delivery of the over by Dry.

Dry finished with four wickets conceding 36 runs after his excellent opening spell of 3/15. He also got rid of Kobus Scholtz (18) in the sixth over of the match with Diego Rosier holding on to a catch in the slips to assist. Dry also reorganized Piedt’s stumps. The Knights were restricted to 147 thanks to some good bowling by Thandolwethu Mnyaka (3/13) and Kobus Scholtz (3/30).

Bowes (129*) helped his side chase down the 249 runs they needed to beat the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras. Bowes struck nine fours in his innings. He and Sumanth Sunkari (31) shared an 80-run partnership over the third wicket, followed by another vital partnership of 66 runs with Senuran Muthusamy (21). The Cape Cobras reached their score thanks to batting contributions by Jason Smith (91*) and Clyde Fortuin (45).

The Bizhub Highveld Lions secured a 62-run victory over the Nashua Titans. The Lions batted first and reached 201/7 in their allotted 50 overs at the Coetzenburg Oval. Gareth Harte was the hero for the Lions as he weighed in with an unbeaten 40 runs. He and David Rhoda (39) shared a 79-run partnership over the seventh wicket which proved vital. The Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Under-19 Week player of the tournament of 2010, Quinton de Kock who already made his senior franchise debut also contributed 35 runs to the cause.

The Titans were restricted to 139 with Harte also the pick of the bowlers as he grabbed two wickets conceding 21 runs in the process. Michael Faasen (2/22) and Wihan Lubbe (2/23) also managed to pick up a brace of wickets each.

Regardless of the dubious precedent that would set; it would also decrease the standard of the competition and make taking wickets against against a de ****-less Lions side (for example) less meaningful. I think it'd just make the whole thing even more pointless.

I think its good for the general competition that he plays. All the bowlers vying for places in the SA u19 team will play against him and test themselves.^^^ Just saw thats what Prince EWS was saying as well.

He will be in the SA u19 team next week so you might as well get him playing cricket in preparation for the series. If he was starting for Lions franchise then I would re-consider but at the moment he isn't playing the 4-day side for some stupid reason.

De Lange included in Titans squad

Fresh off claiming eight wickets in his debut Test for the Proteas, fast bowler Marchant de Lange has been included in the Titans squad for their SuperSport Series match against the Warriors in Benoni on Thursday.

De Lange returned figures of 7 for 81 and one for 45 in the Boxing Day Test in Durban against Sri Lanka.

His dream debut fuelled speculation that he would be in the team for the final Test.

The selectors, however, had other ideas as they saw De Lange as a straight replacement for the injured Vernon Philander who recovered in time for the Newlands Test, and De Lange was released from the national squad.

De Lange will aim to keep the pressure on Proteas fast bowler Morné Morkel will need to perform to maintain his place ahead of the 21-year-old, with tours to New Zealand and England later in the year.

Out of the domestic keepers like Heino Kuhn and Daryn Smit who have been the preferred choices for SA 'A' also Tsolekile...To me I like Dane Vilas...his attacking batting style with the ability to keep good balls out is suited to the number 7 role. His keeping isn't bad but isn't superb but if I had to pick a keeper tomorrow if Boucher got injured...I would go with Vilas...even if it seems more risky.

I would like to see Boucher stick around for a bit longer myself. Especially a test tour to England and how it can be difficult for an inexperienced keeper to deal with that ball constantly swinging after going past the stumps.

Boucher is very street smart and they rely a lot on him as an experienced keeper on input with the pitch and where some possible fielding positions could be so he throws ideas to Smith on the field. Kallis doesn't need to worry too much about that sort of stuff on the field. Boucher makes the team tick and adds a lot of value. It wouldn't surprise me if Mark Boucher plays a big role next year in England. Esepcially with his decent record against them and being with Smith at the crease at Edgbaston after all the controversy in that test match and the pressure we were under because of it.

If Gary and the team feel its the end for him then so be it but at the moment it seems they want him to carry on for now. I wouldn't mind a 2nd keeper like Vilas to go on the tours to New Zealand and England.
