Spot on, I've seen him at Essex and he's definitely one for the longer format IMO, gets good movement and bounce. Don't think him playing in this would help him muchwhy would anyone like milne or cummins who has played at senior level and is a regular at the top domestic level want to or be allowed by the respective countries to play in this. For countries this should be about development rather than winning at all costs. workloads are tough enough without adding u19 wc's to the schedule.
with regards to topley. i don't know why he wasn't selected in the recent england u-19 squad but a hunch is that at present he is not a very good one day player. His bowling relies on swing and the white ball is notoriously harder to swing that the red. he's still pretty raw
i can see some of the the english counties not being particularly pleased if they have to release players for this - although the ecb may make them. The only two players in the current squad who are likely to be regulars for their counties next season are bell-drummond(kent) and ball(kent). Personally i think if anyone is a regular at domestic level then they shouldn't leave that for a junior event. The other players are unlikely to be regulars by then and i'm sure the counties will be happy to release them to aid their development.
... Meyrick??Zimbabwe,South Africa and Pakistan in tri series,Australia have their state championships soon,Jamie Muirhead and Liam Buchanan will miss it due to Big Bash.
What you mean? Before the last WC, we arranged a tri-series with SRL and IND in South Africa as well. How did Pakistan manage to get a place in a tri-series against South Africa?
South African youth manager also quite positive:We’ve prepared well for this tour and the boys have been in good form in domestic competitions,” Azhar told The Express Tribune before the team’s departure to South Africa. “The selection committee has put together a balanced team so we’re quite hopeful.”
Ideal preparation for mega-event in August
Azhar believed that the tour will go a long way in preparing the side for the under-19 World Cup that begins in August.
“We’ve always performed well in World Cups and the present bunch can also handle the pressure of playing in the mega event. I’m sure this team contains players who will go on to become superstars.”
The Tri-Nation Tournament kicks off from January 11, while the ODI series against South Africa starts from January 25.
Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) Youth Cricket Manager, Niels Momberg is looking forward to the South Africa Under 19s’ performance in the World Cup following their successful tour of England in July.
He said: “South Africa stands an excellent chance to go all the way in next year's ICC U19 World Cup. Talent, experience and preparation will be the cornerstone of their campaign. I am confident that this group will make the country proud.”
Without doubt Topley's a much better first class bowlers than one day, all you had to do was watch him play against SA U19's this last summer, hasn't quite worked out his variations and changes in length yet and came on to the bat a little too easily. Saying that I was surprised he hasn't got picked, it wouldn't have harmed his development and he's still going to be one of the best bowlers that England have, anyway the fact the WC's being held in Australia will suit him quite well when the time comes imo.why would anyone like milne or cummins who has played at senior level and is a regular at the top domestic level want to or be allowed by the respective countries to play in this.
