Give Zaheer some rest after this over. Don't bowl long spells with an injury-prone and not-so-young bowler.

Well the commentators were saying before the game that this is a batters track so the question is it just a matter of poor batting or does the pitch have demons in it?.

How do you explain Usman batting at 6 in the first test at SL? When Marsh got injured they decided to do a straight swap ala Ponting-Usman at the SCG & Ponting-Marsh in SL. Marsh got a ton. The 3 spot was his. If Marsh had failed it would have been a straight swap again, with Ponting at 3 and Marsh out

jesus ****ing christ.
So in absence of Marsh you would just expect Ponting to move one slot higher into a position he's has batted all his life rather than push a rook into that position who hadn't done anything of note.

The fact of the matter is Clarke and Ponting tried to evade the new ball by moving the down the order but the basic flaw in that plan is that we have entrusted green rookies to tackle the new ball which is something they haven't been able to do.

Or maybe, the bowlers have bowled really well so far and taken the pitch out of the equation?
