*Official* Pakistan in Bangladesh 2011

I will preface this by admitting that I have literally never seen him bowl once.

Is Shakib actually a good bowler. Or is he competent, but takes a load of wickets because there is noone else in the team who can take any, and so sort of takes wickets as a result.
Bit of both.

He's a very good one day bowler. Needs a pitch to be a genuine threat in Tests but is certainly better than average. He'd definitely be one of the best five spinners in the world, no questions asked, which is a fair enough rap really.

Why did Tamim even try a hook shot in teh 7th over of the game in the 2nd inning. Especially after he fell to one in the first inning. Poor coaching IMHO.

I don't know about Athlai but I hope that PEWS keeps under rating AR and he keeps getting cheap wickets :p
Rehman is a decent, Test standard bowler. I like him. It's just the balance of the side that's off when he plays. Hafeez is a good spinner as well and he barely gets a bowl when Rehman plays, which makes Rehman a wasted selection.

Athlai

Not Terrible
Athlai what do you think of Abdul Rahman?
I've always liked him but Pakistan have 3 spinners all of varying levels that are behind Ajmal.

Hafeez, Kaneria and Rehman all offer something different to the team but I'd go with Hafeez every time because of what he adds to the batting. After that you have to argue whether or not Kaneria and Rehman deserve a spot ahead of a fast bowler, and tbh I'm not so sure.

Test standard spinners shouldn't be the benchmark for the Pakistani bowling attack. You always expect just a little more from them.

Rehman best describes the current Pakistan team. Dull, unassuming but very efficient. Don't think Hafeez is a similar test standard bowler to Rehman if Hafeez has to bowl 25+ overs a day I think he will struggle to average below 40 a good 10 runs higher to Mana. In an ideal world Kaneria should be partnering Ajmal but if Danish is not available for some other reasons then Mana should be the go to man to partner Saeed. I don't mind the current strategy of going with a 2-2 combo rather then a traditional Pakistani combo of 3-1 the pace attack for Pakistan is weak at the moment and I thinks Misbah captaincy style is more suited to a 2-2 combo.

He isn't. He's decent, nothing more.

He's not going to have anywhere near the impact on the series that you're all expecting in any case.
So is Swann apart from Saf in 09 he's never had a consistent series against a top class test batting line up. He's surely ahead of Ajmal but i think the likes of Younis and Misbah have handled much better spinners then him successfully, his impact will also be not as huge as people are expecting

He is an amazing ODI bowler and will have a huge impact on the series. I dont consider him brilliant in Tests but he is still only behind Swann there.

that's more a reflection of the state of current spin bowling stocks as opposed to a demonstration of his intrinsic pedigree

rehman, ajmal, hafeez, kaneria etc aren't comparable to the likes of mushtaq ahmed and saqlain mushtaq and kind of represent a replacement of mercurial brilliance with perennial mediocrity

That is the new Pakistan under Misbah. I would rate Kenaria as being better than Abdul Rahman, Ajmal and Hafeez.
