We're bowling bad lengths and the sun is out so it isn't swinging!

IT MUST BE FLATz?!?1!!!
That contributes to it, but I don't think it's such a outlandish idea to suggest the actual pitch has flattened tbh. It's inevitable with the grass covering it had.

****s sake. That ball from Southee was not a half volley. You could not have safely played that shot at any other time in this match.

No, the NZ fans were just too quick to bail out their batsmen. They needed to make 300+. Doesn't help their cause when their skipper is averaging fifteen for the series and would have been below ten had Hughes taken a relatively regulation catch.

It might be some consolation for the kiwi fans but the Aussie batsmen facing the hangman's noose generally seem to avoid it by pulling something out of the fire. It's NZ's turn now.

The question is, what will happen for the boxing day test if Hughes and Warner score tons here. Watson will surely be ahead of Marsh, but would he replace Khawaja at 3 or would Warner still get dropped allowing Watson to open and Marsh to come back?

Warner was seemingly behind Hughes in the queue but with the latter it should be about consistency, not just pulling something out of the fire at the eleventh hour.

India's attack is weak too but unlike the terrible kiwi batting should set challenging totals so the batting line-up needs to be picked on merit which means Marsh and Watson if fit are both ahead of the incumbent opener but Ussie hasn't been special either.

Maybe Watson should drop down the order though and either Punter or Hussey goes as just quietly, his performances as opener over the past year or so haven't been that flash.

NZ have a fairly woeful record defending 250-ish (or higher) totals in the fourth innings. The only time they've done it in my memory was vs Pakistan at Dunedin. A certain Shane Bond was bowling that day.

I agree, there's a 99% chance we've ****ed it. Let's just see how it goes though.
