Had a pretty good Emerging Players Tournament in 2011 where he outperformed both Aaron and Yadav and also has performed reasonably well so far in ODI's against England and West Indies.

He might not set world on fire but in no way he is ****

I agree wrt Aaron. I don't know if Ind had better replacement for Aaron or not, but Vinay Kumar in tests =

I am tired of seeing one trundler coming up after the other. I don't agree with the standard philosophy that 'pace is not everything' in tests. it is not everything if you can bowl like McGrath for example. It frustrating to watch guys with faster run up then their bowling speeds bowl in tests, esp the new ball

If e1 is available, I would have Zak and 2 from: Ishant, Yadav and Aroon

I know PK did a good job in Eng but the conditions suited him too. But I skipped watching Eng series just out of the agony of having to watch the likes of him open the bowling. I felt like padding up and smashing him out of the attack

Mostly this because I tend to look at the bigger picture and thus I am more for developing a "culture" where bowlers who could bowl at a certain level are picked and in that way the bowlers know (and work towards that) what they need to do to play at test level .... PK is a good bowler though but not someone who can replace someone bowling quick and doing much of the things he can do. I am willing to sacrifice likes of PK for long term benefits of having a culture where bowling quick, constantly looking for wkts, etc is promoted (somewhat like Pak where if you don't bowl at certain speed, you don't get considered)

As we stand, from what I recall Zak is doubtful and Aaron is out, so hoping that who ever does play goes a good job!

*That point is understood, duh* .... The point is abt bowlers with similar capabilities, where one is raw and with pace and other a trundler but can make the ball talk in the first 10 overs then resorts to containment in tests and cannot take full advantage of the old ball by not making it reverse

In such cases, I would prefer someone who can ball quick .... "pace is NOT everything' is not everything. In fact hv been hearing that mantra on a 'general' basis and 'probably' one of the reasons why Ind produces more of Prasads than Srinaths
