Probably can't be 100% on whether it was a clear goalscoring opp or not. I'd change the rules so something like that is always a red though.

Saved! Haha
Should just apply the normal rules with regards to a card, but make it a penalty when it's the last man - any doubt goes with the attacking side.

The problem is the punishment doesn't fit the crime, a foul should result in a *better* goal-scoring opportunity. Likewise for a hand-ball on the line you simply give the goal - not a penalty. For professional fouls nearer the middle of the pitch during a counter attack (we all know the type, 4 on 4 I'd better take the guy out) you just give a free kick anywhere outside the penalty area - wherever the team wants to take it from.

No. That's why I'd change the rules to make it a straight red regardless.

Actually I'd make it a straight red when a player does something like that to stop a promising break on the halfway line. When players decide the current punishment makes breaking the rules worth it, you need a harsher punishment. It should have been sorted out years ago.
Completely agree with that.

It really pisses me off that defenders are allowed to get away with blatantly kicking a player to the ground when they're not going for the ball at all. "Tackles" like that should be a straight red, if you want to kick folk then take up kickboxing.

If the sole target of a challenge is obviously the player, isn't that violent conduct? Might not even need to change the rules.

Sin bins would probably come in handy for those incidents where a red would be too much but a yellow isn't enough. It seems strange that they don't even seem to have been up for discussion at all.

Big club away or small club at home please. Be ok if we got Man City or Wolves at home though, welcome home our boys then.

Cracking season this is turning out to be, just need to make sure we finish the job this year.

Alex McLeish's controversial strategy of not trying to score any goals fails to come off again.

I thought they executed this strategy near perfectly actually, it looked a bit shaky for a moment, but Emile Heskey showed himself to be a true master of this art and saw them through.

Haha wow, just seen the worst offside call ever in the Barcelona game. Ball played through in Iniesta's direction (who wasn't offside), defender makes an arse of the clearance, 2nd defender ****s up and slices the ball up in the air straight to Iniesta who's behind him and Iniesta volleys home. Flag goes up.

Another one of Fergie's boys, so like Bruce, Alex is happy to take a loss as Fergie bigs these guys up in the press and tells Villa and Sunderland fans what ****s they are for not accepting spineless defeats. Big Sam is another kiss the ring tosser who usually doesn't dare bother thinking about turning over Fergie.

Pathetic from Villa yesterday, as you say they seemed content on actually not creating a chance, letting alone putting one away.

Nah, Villa just really are that negative. They were even worse against Spurs, at one stage they brought everyone back for a corner at 2-0 down with fifteen minutes to go. Even Gaby Agbonlahor. I can't believe there are fans that actually still pay to see them.

McLeish is a wretched manager, stuck in the negative tactical mindset that swept the country when Greece won the Euros and Mourinho took over at Chelsea. Everyone else has moved on to possession-based play like Spain or a fast-paced technical style like Germany while he's sticking rigidly to a safety-first strategy that's painfully dull to watch, saps all enthusiasm from the club, completely wastes the attacking quality in the side and doesn't even get results.

He has always been a negative manager. In the 2004/05 season Celtic came to Ibrox with 5 games remaining and 2 points in front, and before the game McLeish comes out in the press and states that he's been amazed that we even had a chance of winning the league. What sort of mindset does that install into your players when they're about to play a must win game? Celtic, unsuprisingly, won that game to go 5 points clear with 4 games left, and somehow blew the league.

The one thing McLeish is good at is taking a talented but underperforming team and improving them because he's a good man manager.

Should lock Eds and ikki in a room to argue about using statistics to compare players .
Nice win for Asrenal, though not an unsurprising one. Will always take a cleansheet though. TV5's goal yesterday was our first from a corner in the league in 179 efforts. Set pieces have always been our forte.
