All it did was allow the Aussies 6 easy runs after they had been struggling to score.

The intention was clearly to lure the Aussie's out of their shell at the end of a passage of play when they should know better.

The double edged sword of that argument is that Guptill isn't good enough to actually trouble them and thats why they look to attack him.

It could've bought a wicket. It's hardly like the Aussie's will feel the pressure is off after tea if Vettori and Southee keep bowling as they have done.
