An effort to pick an All-time ODI XI

KiWiNiNjA

International Coach
Gilchrist (wk)
Jayasuriya
Richards
Tendulkar
Crowe (c)
Bevan
Klusener
Hadlee
Bond
Garner
McGrath

Perhaps a bit of overkill on the bowling. But the batsmen wouldn't need to chase much.

The match would be played under new rules with a ball at each end. No need for Warne or Murali, they both suck. Klusener and Jayasuriya to share 10 if the opposition hasn't been bowled out already.

Will have a go

1.Adam Gilchrist+
2.Sachin Tendulkar
3.Viv Richards
4.Ricky Ponting
5.Zaheer Abbas
6.Michael Bevan
7.Lance Klusener
8.Wasim Akram
9.Joel Garner
10.Muttiah Muralitharan
11.Glenn Mcgrath
Is Ponting really one of the top 5 ODI batsmen of all time, or is there a smidgen of Australian bias thrown in there? Also, most objective folk would select Pollock over Mcgrath for ODI's. especially if you consider his batting

Bull****. On this occasion, unlike all the past players that get analysed to death on here, there's no excuse this time. People here have actually seen him play.

So, let's have the storied tales of Flintoff blasting England to win after win with bat and ball in important ODIs, I can't wait to hear all about them...

/tumbleweed.
What's with the bull****?

Someone said this
Don't think there's anyone who would qualify as a bowling all-rounder yet averages 30+ with bat other than Imran and possibly Klusener (who I am not sure is bowler primarily)
and GF said Flintoff, don't see how it can be bull**** mate.

If Andrew Flintoff qualifies in any person's mind to play in an all time ODI XI then that person has, I'm sad to say, taken leave of their senses.

Ffs it's meant to be an attempt to pick an ATG ODI side, not to sabotage one

Really poor stuff Burge, FFS he couldn't really allow for the rest of our team being crap at the form, You push for lots of Aussies, because they collectively won WCs yet that.should be a clue, after all you've had many greats playing for you, Freddie didn't.

I wont deny that whenever I can't decide between 2 players I'll make a decision based on nationalism. That being said I really do consider Ponting one of the great ODI bats.
With regards to Mcgrath vs Pollock I reckon Mcgrath is the slightly better bowler and that the team already had enough batting, but if someone put in Pollock instead I wouldn't complain.

Mate we are talking about august company here. I'm not saying he can't play, I'm not saying he wasn't very good. I'm saying he doesn't belong in this company is all.

It's like Watson. Yeah he's a really good ODI player, but I can't fathom the idea of him facing up to someone like Garner. Jesus Christ, way he plants onto the front foot, his head would be in the keeper's gloves within an over and a half.

Great reason against Watto, not any against Flintoff, hey he (freddie) probably wouldn't make my XI, but he would be the closest Englishman, and he was really good in the form, there have been sillier suggestion in here, and his doesn't really deserve ridicule.

He won plenty of matches for us, three tons in a row, I think.

Yeah, don't think Flintoff being mentioned is an issue at all. After all it was in answer to a question asking about a specific type of player, a type of player that Freddie was arguably the best of. Whether such a type of player fits into your ODI ATXI or whether you agree that he was the best player to play that role are different things.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Agree with Burgey that for some reason it is very difficult to imagine Flintoff and Watson in such elite company. Watson has been around for a while and used to be pretty **** before all the good bowlers went out.

It's neither here nor their that you don't want him in ATG side, his name came up because someone said that there wasn't many players who was a bowling all-rounder yet averages 30+ with bat, no one put him in their side, end of.
