Think he just didn't want to risk two wickets off two balls.
Yeah, just realized this after watching the replay. He was expecting a throw to the non striker's end so wanted to make sure that Aaron was getting in before running himself.

Perhaps was being too clever though, as Braithwaite did well and threw it to the keeper instead.

The single of the last ball of the previous over was stupid though.

Why are people saying the Ashwin single off the 2nd last over was stupid? When its a matter of so few runs and TWO wickets in hand you take every run you are given.

If it was ONE wicket in hand then its different.

Yep, people keep thinking in ODI terms imo. Wickets are more important than time.

Ashwin should have backed himself to hit two runs off the second last ball instead of blocking. It would have been much easier than off the last ball. If he got out Ojha just had one ball to defend. Of course there is another tall spinner in the commentary team who knows a thing or two about taking risk averse decisions in a test that goes to the wire.

Incidentally India is the only team to have tied a test as well drawn a test will level scores. We have also won a test by one wicket. Now we just need to win a test by one run for the perfect quartet of close finishes.

Of course I forgot the West Indies has obviously achieved this as well. In fact the West Indies have also won by a run and won by a wicket so they have the perfect quartet already.
