Australian Domestic Season 2011-12

Some interesting ones:

McGain playing for South Australia, has been doing very well still in Grade cricket for Prahran and has a good record in T20, was underutilised by Victoria a fair bit as they went with a lot of pacemen during their successful early years. That whole SA team looks very strong, Carseldine, Blizzard, Doropoulos and Borgas.

Are the Queensland mob still trying out for the last two spots on the list for the Heat? Skennar must be a sniff, guy hits a very clean ball.

Don't know what the story is with Seb Gotch, hasn't been playing for Melbourne CC recently, and skipped an Aus U/19 tour and the rumour was that he was trying to get himself drafted. Missed out, I think. Meyrick Buchanan is one to watch, the kid can play and seems a more natural cricketer than Keath.

Loving the name of Brad Hogg in the Western Australia team.

This might be an interesting contest. Can someone post the fixture please?

Yep, was down to 4 iirc. Paulsen, Skennar (?), Raadschelders and Matty Gale who hasn't been named

By my count, Adl has two spots left, Brisbane two, Hobart one, MCG one, Docklands two, Perth one and SCG one. So McGain shapes as a likely fill in for Lyon

edit which team did Buchanan sign for

Buchanan signed for renegades, don't know if he's even allowed to play, think they've signed him up already for next year and will get all his money out of their salary cap for that year.

Gale might be injured, hope not but he has been pretty injury prone over his career, major reason why he never got the chances down here.

Nah gale is playing in the shield match - took 3 in 8 overs. So he's out because of that.

Look forward to a NSW player killing it against WA and Adl signing him

i'm not joking.

He's played three games, ftr. My point is that a guy (Lyon) has acquitted himself well, and it's more important for the culture of the side that the rug isn't pulled out from another bowler on a whim. But, I guess with a new selection panel, there might be the temptation to draw a line under everything that's happened over the past 24 months, and ask Clarke who he feels most comfortable throwing the ball to - he didn't give Lyon a massive amount of overs, although it was in South Africa.

I don't agree with his (SOK) treatment, that Beer skipped past him was ridiculous after the Australia A game. But when a guy isn't guaranteed a game for his state side, as he wasn't last year, it puts them in a spot of bother. Personally, think that Lyon's game has more to it with the ball than O'Keefe, but O'Keefe's probably slightly more ready now. But there's been greater travesties committed than going to Lyon, he gets more work on the ball than any other fingerspinner in Australia except maybe Krezja, and is pretty accurate to go with that.
Yes it is three, My bad.

Look I pretty much agree with all of that. Lyon does look good, never said otherwise. However it is a question of how long do you persist if he isn't stepping up to the mark? Should we have persisted longer with Krezja, or X or Beer? I'd obviously contend no simply because they aren't the best we have. So I'd make the same call on Lyon. Whatever the merits of the way he looks, I think at this time O'Keefe offers much more and so is the one who deserves the chance and to be persisted with for a year or so. Personally I don't believe SOK would need to be persisted with as he'd bring the performances, but...

It won't happen of course, so it's just going to be a minor grumble.

Both Lyon and SOK could well end up being overtaken by Boyce in the not too distant. Not many guys his age can bowl good leggies, but from what I saw in the last Shield game, he's coming along. We'll usually and with good reason favour wrist over finger spin. NSW might need to bring him down so he can really lift his game to the next level :p
