Unless Siddle's a bit sore from his innings - which I doubt - I'm not a huge fan of Johnson starting with the new ball over him. If all this has been made about Siddle's getting so much success recently from pitching it up, give him the new ball to have a crack at it.
It looks like they're clinging so tightly to the idea that Johnson is a swing bowler that they've decided to let him disprove it in every single country before binning it. Not only will this no doubt confuse Johnson as to what his role in the side is and what he should be striving for, but it will delay the quest in cementing Harris's new ball partner.

It'll probably harm Australia's chance in this Test too, which is of course the most important thing overall anyway.

Cue a Johnson hat-trick in the next over now, but yeah, don't like it.

I hope Johnson goes well in this test, but he makes delivering the ball to the other end of the pitch look incredibly difficult. His action seems to have 35 check-points to go through before he lets go of the cherry.

In other news, Siddle never seams the ball.

Good to see Clarke doesn't subscribe to the Ponting-era 'Johnson could get a wicket at any time so keep bowling him until he's dead/crying for his Mum' dictum.

Don't think it was a bad shout giving Johnson a go with the new ball, but a better move to whip him off after two when he realised it was just straight up and down. Captains shouldn't be afraid to try there own things, but react quickly if it isn't deemed to be working. Good work Clarke.
