Not everyone does that.. it's just some people who can't stand Kallis because he's so successful.
Lets try and keep the straw man generalizations out of this discussion eh? It's intellectually dishonest.

The same goes for any other comments in this thread along the same lines.

Love Phlegm, a Kallis fan.

Akilana, I see this isn't the first time someone has called you out for laying bait today. I suggest you cease with your current line of posting, because this is my final warning for tonight.

Its annoying for me too, not quite sure when Kallis got this label as a great player on green pitches.....cant say I've heard it before. Great player, yes. His technique is rock solid, better than Ponting, Lara, not quite as good as Sachin, but he has lazy footwork in the style of Laxman when its seaming, not coming forward enough.
He is a great player on green pitches, certainly not the best one, but as good as anyone needs to be.

Disagree with the bolded part. As far as techniques are concerned I would rank Ponting and Lara well ahead.

Sample size is too small IMO. Great player on roads. Hence why for 90% of his career he wasn't rated.
This again? His whole home record is a sample size, familiar conditions or not.

He wasn't rated for so long because he is underrated as is the case with most SA players.

If his whole home record is a sample size then you are implying that EVERY test he played in SA was on a green top, which even you know isn't true, and you have already said you don't believe that, so why cling to that reasoning? Even the innings listed are 50/50 at best, and are the smallest sample size possible for someone who has played for 16 years at home. And he wasn't rated for so long because he didn't do anything worth rating him for. His poor record (and woeful technique) on seaming tracks in England cannot be overlooked, if he has enough practice on green top he really should have a killer record in England.

Okay... I will admit that I overexaggerated a little bit by saying his whole record is a sample size but still most of it is. I have already made the England point said that he can't be rated as the greatest green pitch players or anything for that but don't try and take anything away from his SA record for that.

he wasn't rated for so long because he didn't do anything worth rating him for
He had done as much as any other player. Its not like all his record all just magically increased all at once after the India series. He had still played for over 140+ matches and had average of over 55 even before that series. Its only when he did so exceptionally well against the most popular cricket team that it finally caught people's eyes.

Gooch, S Waugh, Dravid in the last 20 years, many famous innings, no struggle to think of classic green top innings those guys have played.

hang on

dravid? headingley in the early noughties is the only one that comes to mind, albeit a tired old one. his innings this summer past were not on greentops.

There was one in India in 2008 vs SA (where India made less than 100 on day 1), Joburg day 1 vs Australia 2009 was pretty rough, Headingley 2002, Sydney Aus vs Pakistan 2010 maybe. There was one SA test vs WI in 2003/04 that was pretty green too, but WI terrible bowlers let SA off, just banged it in short for 2 days. Aus v Bangladesh at Darwin, 2003? Trent Bridge 2001 Ashes maybe.

. since there have been very few proper green tops, i like to consider pitches with even reasonable grass as green-tops. just saying...

this is a tough one......I have followed much more of Dravid's career than Kallis's but I know that Kallis is also very very good
