Yes, which is all well and good until one of the arguments being used is Bell's recent output (including all the tons he's made at 5)

Fact is, we would all rather have Trott at 3 and Bell at 5 as we know it works. The last 18 months tells us that. If it aint broke don't fix it. Bell may get more runs at 3 but it is all hypothetical as he will return to 5 anyway next year as long as Trott doesn't get injured again.

Why is Bell scoring more runs suddenly so important? It should only matter if it is costing England games and ATM, it isn't. And Trott is no slouch there at 3 and you would be insanely stupid to have KP bat anywhere but 4 because he gives you the much needed attacking option, cushioned nicely between 3 of the most consistent run machines (albeit a bit less flamboyant) and that is what is helping him rediscover his best form. Why mess up ALL of this just because 1 guy could make more batting up the order? It is the equivalent of India wanting to mess up the whole batting order simply because VVS isn't getting the opportunity to make big scores at 5... In other words, pointless.

Exactly. Just there is one guy here moaning that Bell would score more if moved up. I bet Bresnan and Prior would too but while the team is doing well and WINNING why fix a problem that isn't there?

Trott is currently the best number 3 in the world, why replace him with Bell who has failed there more than he has succeeded?

That's unfair, he's been more than happy to accomodate a tail-ender being promoted up the order to see out the final few overs of a day. Team player.

That's a very flawed analogy. Trott & Pietersen simply aren't in the same class as Dravid & Tendulkar respectively. What's more, Laxman has a very specific role which he seems to be almost freakishly good at executing.
