Anyway just to balance things out I'd still pick Trott, just my batting lineup (all being fit) would be something like:

There's obviously a player in Stokes, but he hasn't shown it yet, think it's only fair to judge him once he can bowl as well given how good his List A record is.

Bopara now on notice again, which is a shame after a good series against India at home.

Don't think we've seen much evidence from Stokes, but I agree with the general idea.

There aren't many options who are good enough to bat high up the order, can bowl seam and who bats aggressively. Ashwin bowled something he hasn't really had experience of as well as being nervous with a dodgy finger, but he still managed the best innings in that farcical T20 game against West Indies. He will really help England's balance whenever their next ODI series is unless they decide to keep waste caps on the squad filler player Bopara.

Trott's innings was very, very impressive. Lasted the entire innings, didn't look like throwing his wicket away, and built massive partnerships. He's an ideal foil for the quicker scorers, and a huge asset in any England uniform.

I'm seeing the Samit-Jadeja comparison, though Samit's a more aggressive batsman and Jadeja's a slightly better bowler. Pathan doesn't come into it though.

Actually, Ravi to Ravindra is more like it. Both slightly-better-than-average batsmen with low strike rates, and bit bowlers to fill the overs, though Bopara is nowhere as over-rated a bowler as Jadeja. Patel and Pathan, both primarily batsmen with big-hitting ability, and also capable of filling in loads of overs, though relatively unstable.

Yeah, it's weird how both Yardy and him have somehow been pegged as spinners who bat slightly in internationals when both are top order batsmen for their respective counties. Sammy averages over 41 in FC cricket which stands comparison to the Morgans and Boparas of the world.

The crowds are appalling in India.

Yeah,the Indian crowds in England were much better.

The crowds in Mohali are probably among the worst in that respect and rowdy too. But it is a similar case in most of North India with the crowds being more interested in the Indian team.

The Southern crowds tend to be better in that respect and probably in eastern India too.

Is just one of those England in ODI eccentricities that we love so much, Jamie Dalrymple another example.

Samit a rather more talented batsman than the other two though so he may just escape the oters fate, no doubt he has to bat in the top 6 if there is any point in him being in the side.

Anyway can not watch any of this series because of the BCCI, cannot say I am too upset about that the way the series has gone so far, nice to listen to the radio again as well.
