Honestly, Hughes' non-selection now a joke.
I think Watson's selection is the bigger joke, but it's really much the same. No offence to the dude, but he's not really part of the NSW squad and he ain't bowling. He's been on Aus Duty for ages, and he's about to be on Aus Duty for ages. Someone - be it CA, NSW or himself - should have stepped in and send no. Leaving room for Hughes at top. We ain't the BCCI and he ain't MS!

Hmm it was almost as if NSW only had to bat sensibly in the first place to chase this down with overs to spare...

What is it with Australian batting? The last 5-10 years it's become synonymous with soft, gormless dismissals.

50 up. Been eminently sensible stuff from both.

What's Rohrer's story? Doesn't look to have played much for a bloke in his 30s. FCrecord much better than his limited overs ones too.

Looks to have something about him, anyway.

Probably given a few LO games by the selectors on the basis of Final: New South Wales v Victoria at Sydney, Jan 24, 2009 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo but yeah FC-wise he's fairly solid down at 5-6. and obviously he improved the finance sheet of NSW cricket a bit thanks to that innings so why not gift him games. As for his debut-age. Cribb probably knows more, but NSW is always a pretty hard to team to break into that once you pass 22. If he was over in say SA or WA he'd probably have more games under his belt.

Very solid player, great temperament about him. Plays for Fairfield, but despite this he's a good bloke.

Can bat.

Yeah, not over yet, but just shows what batting sensibly can do.

Anyone know what the cross-over point is, regarding net run-rates such that if NSW win with so many overs to spare they overtake Mumbai's NRR? It will be relevant if NSW's final match is rained off. I'm guessing they should better Mumbai's NRR now anyway - unless they play out some more dot balls.

Edit: Yea should be fine now. 3 overs to spare will push NSW's NRR into the positive, Mumbai's will go negative comfortably .

the only bad thing about this is there's now no way any selection changes are happening. Rohrer was the only one in danger of being dropped for Hughes and obviously he's fine. If Smith got a golden duck he may have been in trouble, but the top 4 are safe as

Super partnership saves the day. Hopefully the team doesn't just rest on their laurels and addresses the problems at 3&4.

Excellent stuff from Smith finally putting a real match winning performance in.

And Rohrer, well I rate the guy and have for a while. He's not going to play for Australia, but he's a pro. Would walk into the top 4 in almost every other state side. Real good man to have for depth.
