Interesting score. Sounds like a lack of patience to get out - but have Sri Lanka not bowled well?

Also, what's the record for highest Test average? Marsh closing in on 200 aws. The highest I can think of is Bell, who had an average of 300 at one point.

Frankly speaking if Clarke finds his technique inadequate for batting in the top order then he should have just pushed himself down to #6 or #7, but its nothing short of idiotic to have Hussey at #6 especially since our lower middle order has proved to be wafer thin which leaves him with a pretty realistic scenario of running out of partners.

Foster 287 + Rowe after his 2nd ton in his debut match come to mind (would have been 300 cause of the double ton)

"@All you statisticians out there, how many runs does Marsh need to have the highest batting average at any point in a career?" Scott, he will have to beat Lawrence Rowe's 336. Rowe scored 214, 100 not out and 22 before before he was dismissed a second time. The Australian record belongs to Kepler Wessels, who scored 162 and 46 in his first Test. If Marsh scores another 42 before getting out, he will have done that. These stats courtesy Mohan Menon, who is working for Ten Sports

How many would we need to score here to start feeling a bit safe..? Think we would need atleast 400 in these conditions, anything less would mean we would have to bat tremendously in the 2nd innings to save both this test and the series because its highly unlikely to see Sri Lankan batting fail in these conditions.
