World Cup Super 8 Match vs West Indies
Dean was given a game in place of Hing as the CWers batted first.
Heads was the first wicket to go, departing for an unusally sedate 17 from 29 when he nicked Best to slip. Dharan was able to pick up the slack from the other end though, and Cw had made a good start at 45/1 after 9 overs.
The second wicket stand started slowly, but a nine-ball, 16-run over from Ryan Hinds boosted the score to 87/1 after the first 15. CW were not allowed to get away, and Dharan was bowled by Jeremy for 38 off 40. After the score had passed 50, Hinds returned to have Spark out for his second successive single-figure score. CW stumbled to 103/3 after 20.
Ballich played positively but fell short of his half century, departing for 46 off 50 balls. Ikram was next to go when he ran himself out attempting to get off the mark with a risky two, and once again Winne came in with a rescue job needed.
From 123/5 in the 35th over, Winne and Narang put on 62 in 12 overs. Dwayne Bravo eventually broke the stand when Winne miscued a drive to mid-on, but Narang was the key going into the final 10 overs. CW were 189/6, with Narang on 40* from 48.
CW's seventh wicket pair were able to lift CW up to the score they needed. Narang raised his half century from 57 balls and made his way to 75* at a run a ball. Corrin was tied down more than he would have liked for his 30* from 39, but still played a good supporting role. CW finished with a healthy 251/6 on the board.
CW's good score was made to look daunting when CW's seamers put the Windies under early pressure. Phlegm got the early wicket of Gayle in his second over, and Winne adding to his batting performance with a maiden first up amongst an opening spell of 4-1-7-0.
Devon Smith was the main recipient of the boeling and after 43 balls of failing to time a ball, Capone trapped him lbw for 18. West Indies were 32/2 in the 12th over, and already needing nearly a run a ball. Sarwan looked to catch up with the rate but Chanderpaul was tied down, and departed for 27 off 44 when he edged Corrin behind.
That brought Lara to the crease at 81/3, and with Sarwan having got to 30 at a run a ball, this seemed like the key partnership. The Guyanese bat was playing beautifully, taking 16 off a Corrin over to move to his half century, but the leggie came back strongly in the next over to have Sarwan lbw. He'd made 57 off 41, and the West Indies were 110/4 at the half way stage.
Lara was not coming to the rescue, as a fierce turner from Corrin had him bowled or 5 off 15. Ikram was the benefactor of a moment of madness from Baugh, as the wicketkeeper skied a slog to midwicket. Hinds and Bravo attempted a recovery, their slow partnership of 33 presumably intended to see off the spinners.
It was not to be as Corrin completed his sensational all-round match. The stand was broken when Corrin got a top edge from Hinds through to the keeper, and the leggie made his last over a maiden, signing off with figures of 10-1-45-4.
West Indies were miles adrift, needing 102 from the final 15 with only three wickets remaining. Bravo's resistance looked to have ended when Capone hit his leg stump, but the left-armer had overstepped. It didn't matter too much, as two balls later it really was the end for Bravo as Capone trapped him lbw.
The final two wickets fell soon after, Winne cleaning up the tailenders to complete an ecxellent all-round match for him, and for his side.
CW won by 82 runs
