there is no talent recognition process.

amir for example was picked out from obscurity.
So who do you suggest Pakistan play in this series ahead of Cheema and Khan if they wanted to rest Riaz, Gul etc? They'll play a talent when they find him, right now they simply haven't.

Involved with Pak representative sides from the age of 14. Toured England as a 15 year old for Pak U19. Most people heard about the kid years before test debut.

Not Terrible
Hafeez becoming a gun is perhaps the strangest thing to happen to Pakistani cricket in the last few years that isn't tied to some kind of controversy. He really just became quite good one day.

i did not know that, i always thought he was picked out from a training camp by wasim, and was unknown before that.

Yeah, first time I came across him (on Sky) was when he took on Billy Godleman's England U19 side back in 2007. Quickest bowler on show was Amir, bowling 90mph+. Great sight. Junaid Khan played in that series as well, as did fellow current internationals Ahmed Shahzad and Chris Woakes. But it was Goldeman and Amir who were the hyped players.

This.

Not sure about Sohail, but the Pakistani selectors were pretty justified in Picking Junaid and Cheema.
I think some people have so become used to bad decisions from them, that they moan even when they make decent decisions. And Cheema has done a pretty decent job. As long as he is effective how he looks is irrelevant.

Stumps. Good effort by these two. Makes you wonder, if they can bat for an hour, can they bat for another session? Might not be over...

Edit - what am I on about, of course it's over.

I realise that Cheema has played well, but the problem is that Cheema is of the same ilk as Gul and Wahab, i.e. he is an old ball specialist. His wickets either came from Zim batsmen giving their wickets away or the ball reversing. Pakistan does not need another death over specialist, they need a new ball pair like Amir and Asif. If Cheema had only been a new ball bowler with this same speed, I would have been very happy to have him in the team. However he isn't and therefore someone like Sadaf Hussain, who does swing the new ball is a better option. I'm sure you must have seen Sadaf's videos on YouTube.

I was pretty excited about Sadaf Hussain, but from what i've heard is that he will only look good if the pitch has assistance.Give him unhelpful conditions, and he will get owned worse than Sohail Khan.I've never seen him play live, but his domestic record inflates his ability to a large extent from what i've heard.I do think he deserves a chance though.

The problem with Cheema is his position in the pecking order.Right now,the order is Gul,Wahab and Junaid Khan.Junaid is going to get an extended run because he's young, and has a done a decent job in some very unhelpful conditions, and he is rated very
highly by the board.Cheema might get another test or two here and there, but one bad performance, and he will be thrown into oblivion forever. At 32,he doesn't have a future in a side that has a history of producing talented young fast bowlers regularly.

On another note, everyone keep an eye on Rameez Raja Jr.One hell of a batting talent.I'm sure he'll play in the ODIs.

Where did you hear that Sadaf will get owned on unhelpful pitches. His action is like Zak's and on YouTube there are his videos where he was getting wickets on dead Pak pitches. Plus he has height and looks like an Asif type bowler.

I dont know if this has been mentioned already, but this match eerily reminds me of bangpadesh's first match against india where bd scored 400+ matched by india then the second innings capitulation by bd. The match isnt over though :)

I think robelinda's channel has that video.

Wouldn’t be surprised. The ball started to reverse miles late yesterday evening.

Taibu and Jarvis seem to have the measure of Hafeez, both playing under the impression that Hafeez won’t be turning the ball but Ajmal is still a big threat to Jarvis and with the ball now moving for the quicks, Taibu needs to farm the strike for as long as possible. Still great effort from these two to take the game into day 5, saved a lot of face but still inexcusable effort from the top order. Think Craig Ervine has played himself out of the test side for NZ, while Lamb needs to play as a bowler and bat 8 down.

Shouldn't be an issue for Pak to chase down anything mind. Nothing in the wicket conventionally for the quicks, so Taylor should go with Price and Lamb from the get go.
