Dravid back in ODI squad!!

LOL. Gotta love the hype. Kid will probably clock slower than all of the England seamers. VRV Singh (remember him?) is still my favourite Indian speedster.
Smacked Shaun Pollock around baseball style in 2006 in Johannesburg.

Offered nothing else in cricket, but that was a hilarious moment.

There were allegations that he was actually lot older than his official age and had a odd pattern of underage teams progression too.

I didn't like the way it represented playing Dravid for games in awkward conditions and someone more aggressive for games in India as the selectors just being a dick to him when it makes perfect sense tactically. Why wouldn't you pick someone with a tighter technique in conditions that will test it and someone who can score faster in conditions that won't?
In theory, this makes sense and is logical tactics.

However that's only if one believes every ODI series deserves to be treated like a test series, whereby the best team should be chosen for the conditions and opponents everytime, without the future really taken into account.

I don't. Now whilst the ODIs vs. England is not a series vs. Bangladesh or random millionth series vs. Sri Lanka, it still should be used to groom players who will no doubt be a part of the future of test cricket. Playing Dravid is a very short-sighted move here. Giving Rahane a go here would benefit Indian cricket, whether he scores well or fails miserably.

We know for damn sure Dravid is going to have no part in any future ICC ODI tournament. If India are going to play every test to win by sticking with Laxman, Dravid and Sachin, India should at least use the ODIs as a chance to see the new talent (like they did in the WI ODIs, which was fine imo).

Yeah, that’s all I remember about him, batting like a complete loon.

Yeah, I fully agree. My point was just that it's in no way unfair on Dravid for the selectors to go horses-for-courses in ODIs, which was what that article was suggesting.

This is not fair on Dravid, whenever India is in crisis, the selectors and the captain go for Dravid,
he deserved to be in the world cup winning squad but was not selected, Dravid gave a nice slap on MSD's face by announcing his retirement right after his selection.

The Indian selectors are just crap, they are picking only defensive players for the England ODI series,
Gambhir, Kohli, Dravid, Rahane and MSD also plays slow these days aswell, don't know how many anchorman do we need, they should have been bold enough and picked someone like Uthappa for Sehwag and Yusuf Pathan should have definitely been in the team considering his awesome performance against South Africa in South Africa. Such players might not be too consistent, but you need atleast 2 of them in the team considering the way ODIs are played currently.

Hope the current selection panel changes soon, its just creating a lot of problems for team India for long term.

Irfan is an ideal choice anytime, but a little less fit lately- he missed an entire Ranji season. More practical alternatives are Praveen Kumar, Yusuf Pathan, Ashwin and Laxmiratan Shukla, and by a long shot Vinay and Mishra- three of them are already in the squad. India need to build a bowling unit/tail end like England's, with their answer to Bresnan, Broad and Swann- and they have players good enough. Ishant, Praveen and Vinay should make the team in all games, with spin support from Ashwin and Mishra. Can't be too bad.
Completely agree with you

Dravid's selection does not look so bad now with everyone else falling like nine pins one by one:(.

How true. Exact nine injuries on the tour iirc. With nine of first XI out, if India can give a decent fight, I would be happy with our bench strength atleast in ODIs.
