Netted this morning and, according to all the comms, the Indian management want him to bat.concussion is a serious thing. it ain't a broken small toe. if the doctor and gambhir don't have 100% confidence he shouldn't bat....and really it's not gambhir's call. should be up to the doctor. over here a football who gets concussion doesn't come back in the same match. it doesn't go away with a little nap.
Haha they won't drop Gambhir. The Indian selectors aren't that dire.Gambhir has thrown the sickie to stop him getting dropped for the next series. Somebody will fall to make way and dropping Raina may not be enough but if Gambhir can plead injury and illness he can say it wasn't his fault. We all know the big 3 will stay and Sehwag can't be blamed for not scoring after injury so Gambhir would have been next in line for the chop.
Not up to the management or the captain. All down to the doctor and the player. He may have netted but over on cricinfo they're saying David Lloyd saw Gambhir net and said "he really struggled". It ain't a bad cough or toe, it's his ****ing brain...and once he goes out there the bowlers ain't gonna get bowl half volleys to him. That said, him being padded is inexcusable. He's either been ruled out, by himself or the doctor, or he hasn't. But then it's no surprise a simple yes he'll bat/no he won't question is being handed this way by the Indian team. Dereliction of duty.
Plus, of course, he has form in this regard. Pappa Gambhir has brewed a jibber.
Cook last match innitJust had a thought about another meaningless record.
If Dravid carries his bat and England enforce the follow on he will be straight back out to open in the second innings. That means he will have been on the pitch continuously since play began on Thursday, possibly going into day 5.
Will this be the longest unbroken stint on the pitch by any player?
Presumably the docs have okayed him, so it must be down to the player. Not up to the management or the captain. All down to the doctor and the player. To add to this, the best comparison to this that I can think of is Langer in his 100th test. We won that match by 2 wickets...but really only one 'cause despite Langer being padded up, he was never gonna be allowed to go out there, Ponting said he was bring him down by force if he had to. Now obviously that was a tad more serious injury, but right now there doesn't seem to be anyone being assertive in the Indian camp and saying Yes/No to this, and that's not the player's fault, he's already got a pretty huge "my own personal health v my country's needs" battle going on in his sore head. Not up to the management or the captain. Personally I don't see any doctor sending a player with conclusion out there, but yep, if he has GG deserves to abused etc. That said I'd be gun shy too. I don't think the people here and elsewhere are treating conclusion as seriously as they should bePresumably the docs have okayed him, so it must be down to the player.
Gun shy.
Always ends in tears that one.Personally I don't see any doctor sending a player with conclusion out there, but yep, if he has GG deserves to abused etc. That said I'd be gun shy too. I don't think the people here and elsewhere are treating conclusion as seriously as they should be
shut it ****Always ends in tears that one.
But Cook was out in the England first innings, so he hadn't been continuously on the pitch going into the Indian second innings. He was on the pitch continuously for less than 3 days.Cook last match innit
That said the carrying the bat factor adds uniqueness
