*Official* Third Test at Edgbaston

Doesn't read like an excuse to me. Dhoni is correct in what he says - India's preparation for this tour has been a complete shambles.
Be interesting to see how Fletcher reacts to it, never been a massive believer in a comprehensive warm up, with his preference for 2 day games and non-FC status.

I wasn't just referring to the one warm up game played, but what India's cricketers have been doing since the World Cup Final. 6 weeks of IPL and a tour of the West Indies crammed into the small gap inbetween the IPL and a tour of England is no way to prepare for such a marquee series.

The problem though, is the BCCI does not give too much bother to preparation for tests and never really has. Not really a new problem either. Been going on for many years now.

Taylor's made 76 and 98 in the Lions match - surely that puts him into pole position should Trott not be fit for the 3rd Test?

Yes that makes it really interesting because I would have thought Bopara would have had the edge going into the game. If they were relatively convinced that Bopara was the next in line then what has happened in this Lions game will not matter too much. Similarly it was believed that the previous shoot out between Morgan and Bopara that took place before the SL series, the decision was already made as to who will start the series. Although I doubt that a score of over 190 does not influence the selectors before a series.

I don't know if its Gavaskar earning his keep, but he'd penned an article in the newspaper yesterday where he pinned the blame for the poor batting performances firmly on the lack of technique from most of the players on tour. He claimed that it was a fundamental shortcoming that wouldn't have been overcome if the team had played 5 warm up games.

on an away tour its your 3-4 senior who are responsible for the majority of the runs lack of tehnique is the last thing you associate with Tendy and Lax. The likes of Raina, Yuvraj were always suppose to play the support act.

I don't think he meant Laxman and Tendulkar. Theoretically they would average 150 runs an innings together with Dravid. It's upto the two openers, nos 6 and 7 plus the tail to bump it up past 300, which hasn't been happening.

Whatever it takes!!!

But it doesn't absolve blame from the BCCI at all.. Your technique is the product of the environment you play in and these guys have developed a technique that will help them maximize their potential in the conditions they play in all the time, which is India. If the BCCI realy cared about doing well on the field in tests, they should have had a LOT more A tours than they do. That is one another area where England are doing well, with their Lions program.

This England team is the best in the world although they are not officially no : 1 yet. They are better than the inconsistent South African side. The quality probably tops over SA in both bowling and batting. This team is going to be the next most consistent test side after the Australian era. It will be interesting to test them in the subcontinent. Should do well.

FFS. I hope they leave bell at 3 until Trott comes back.

Worse still if Bopara gets a score and Morgan doesn't he could usurp him. They're both not ideal but i don't want Bopara near the team. His dismissals in the 09 Ashes were horrid.

Bopara is a horrible selection. To put it simply, the guy just isn't an international level batsmen. Is Bopara one of the best 15 or 16 players in England? No, definitely not.

Are the England selectors just biding their time with James Taylor? It seems that way, it looks like the selectors are scared of debuting him at the wrong time.
