heh, UC's legendary Saffer love to the fore as usual.
Haha I'm entitled to an opinion, I'm the only one who watches their matches.

A fact that becomes more and more painfully obvious every time someone tries to crack that Morkel isn't as good a bowler as Johnson.

It's not so much that I actually think he's a million miles better, but I think Johnson's generally pretty underrated on here so if people are ranking Morkel below him they've almost definitely missed something. And by "something" I mean "every test South Africa have played for two years".

The biggest factor impacting on perception of Johnson, in my view, is that both he and Morkel are good support bowlers to a real gun in the side but, in Johnson's case, he's expected to be the gun.

All 4 England bowlers, are in the Top 11 places in the rankings, if they can keep it up through the series it will make interesting viewing by the end.

I completely agree, I've made that point in Johnson's favour a ton. Johnson's rep really suffers from playing in a losing side lately, from the fact that his bad bowling looks atrocious, from the fact that he bowls badly during the Ashes when everyone watches and remembers... he's a victim of all kinds of perceptions.

Morkel's definitely better though, and it's not close either. Worked out his action over the summer of '09 and he's been a world-class seamer ever since. It's funny because when they faced each other in March that year, Morkel looked absolutely hopeless and Johnson was bowling to an unbelievable standard. Ever since, Johnson's bowling has deteriorated to the point that he's become a cricketing joke and Morkel's improved beyond all recognition. Crazy game.

Don't think he is a million times better tbf. Pretty marginal between them as overall, all condition bowlers.

But we already have our fair share of eccentric bowlers in Sreesanth and Ishant,so Morkel would be a better fit. Also has done way better in India than Johnson IIRC.
Morkel bowls more unplayable (not excellent, unplayable !!) balls than any other bowler including steyn tbh. however he's quite erratic too ...

If i had to rank the top 10 bowlers from the top ranked sides, I'd go with this order

1. Steyn
2. Anderson
3. Morkel
4. Khan (unfit far too often)
5. Swann
6. Tremlett
7. Johnson
8. Siddle
9. Bollinger
10. Broad

Morkel over Zaheer? Johnson at 6?

You lose points for missing matches.

And lo and behold Johnson does actually, generally speaking, take wickets on a consistent basis. May look terrible whilst doing so, but...

I'm sure that will be a big saviour for him when people look back on the 4-0 hammering India were given, at least Zaheer averaged better than Anderson (ignoring that Broad beat him)

Also ignoring the fact that if he wasn't such an unfit out of shape waster he'd probably not have so many injuries.

And if they prepared properly, why didn't he go to the Windies for the last test as preparation or at least why didn't the BCCI arrange a few practice matches and rest those who did play in the West Indies.
