noIf India were to score 342, without Sehwag, it would only be in the morning of the 4th day.
Hence, England would have to bat at one day pace to score 289 and then for India to be left with 110 overs to bat, which I dont think the top 3 English batsmen would.
Nevertheless, would be a very interesting match, if what you predict happens somehow.
Oops my bad..didnt know that..no
there's 98 overs a day for the rest of the test.
i think that india will end up collapsing and getting about 220 by tea. being made to follow on and making a better fist of it and getting about 380 by close to the end tomorrow.Of course it's a very good score - and the Indian win is pretty much out of it - but you're never in the box seat without wickets if you ask me.
Draw the firm favourite just about everywhere.
Good idea - shades of Headingley '81 - Sachin can play the Botham part but who's going to do Bob Willis's bit?i think that india will end up collapsing and getting about 220 by tea. being made to follow on and making a better fist of it and getting about 380 by close to the end tomorrow.
a couple of quick wickets in a 130ish chase would make things very tasty!
unless, of course they make 600....
It's always nice to have a free tilt at the opposition batting lineup first test of the series though. India need to bat really well to save the test now- something they're well capable of- but it's a lovely spot to be in. Especially if it's cloudy today.Of course it's a very good score - and the Indian win is pretty much out of it - but you're never in the box seat without wickets if you ask me.

Dunno why but I just knew you'd come back with thatdhoni.

Nitpick - you can lose. It's just very, very unlikely (India score 600 and then somehow, with 3 bowlers, 2 of which aren't bowling very well, bowl you lot out for <200 on the last day at Lord's - yeah...)We can't lose but India can. Will India be able to cope if the ball moves around today, we know Dravid and Tendulkar can but the rest are unknown quantities in that respect apart from VVS who hasn't got a great record over here. I think a collapse is just as likely as a big score but I have no idea which one will happen.
If we fit 3 days of 98 overs a day in then England have more than enough time to win the match.
If that happens we have a new best ever test match.Nitpick - you can lose. It's just very, very unlikely (India score 600 and then somehow, with 3 bowlers, 2 of which aren't bowling very well, bowl you lot out for <200 on the last day at Lord's - yeah...)
