While there's no doubt that much of the whining started after (and because) the two countries lost their veto power and could no longer run cricket as their own personal fiefdom - that really doesn't excuse the BCCI's track record either. "Good" should not be a worse anywhere near it.
Would somewhat agree with this. Even though more is made of their behaviour than there is, specially by foreign media /boards/staff people etc... because they no longer have the veto power they did previously and full control and they do not like this.
It is more balanced than it is made out to be right now because how tilted it was before one way.
Cause when's Bangladesh coming over to tour by the way? They pushed for their inclusion to get another vote but remain the only country to never have invited them over for a series. It'll be close to two decades by the end of the next FTP and it won't have happened. That's pretty deplorable. Just one example.
Bangladesh haven't toured Australia either since 2003 and have 2/3 test tours there cancelled due to commercial reasons since then and all the big boards have similar FTP's.
Besides this example is incorrect, because it is not the BCCI which has a problem with Bangladesh touring India , but actually Bangladesh board have wanted India to tour there in exchange of tours here so they can make more money.
Hence ,why India has toured Bangladesh more times than any country for both Tests and ODI's to help them out financially and also keep their vote etc...
As for 10% of the power, no one is telling them how to run cricket within India but people can be rightly upset when they feel the global game is affected by certain nations. Though many times it's just a convenient bogey man because on matters of finance (eg related to tv rights - for example for test championship) it's the ECB and BCCI and sometimes CA that form a bloc to keep everyone else out. People like to make it about colonialism or anti colonialism or subcontinent vs not but if you really read the books and accounts of people in those meetings it's really the money vs non money blocs on almost all important decisions.
Regardless, officially the BCCI have only one vote. If they play politics and "buy off" other votes, it's as much the fault of the other boards too. If you bribe someone, you're guilty for giving it but the other guy is just as guilty for accepting it.
It is not just cricket though where the powerful wield more power etc.. but in every damn sport.
In Field Hockey the rules were blatantly changed when India and Pakistan were on top and the game shifted to astro turf and then the offside rule removed because the western countries and Australia could do so and generated the most revenue. This resulted in the fall of the traditional dominant teams.
Meanwhile the likes of Softball, Handball, Baseball, Judo etc... have been Olympic sports because there is a commercial market for them in countries which give most revenue and they want these sports and others in. Who would care if India wanted Cricket or Kabaddi in? Hell they were even dropping wrestling from the commonwealth games.
And the list is on and on in every sport and sporting body......
So it a bit naive to expect any sport not to listen to the financial powerhouse, even though Cricket is a lot more even than most sports in terms of non financial power distribution.
Now coming to the bargaining tactics in the ICC ,hell every board engages in the same and wants to get want they want through. The CA and NZC wanted a shorter world cup next time with less minnows so they were willing to concede last time to delay the UDRS decision.
While this time even the PCB and BCB agreed to support the minnows inclusion into the world cup, in exchange of some of their support to block the rule change for presidency which they did succesfully delay against the might of the CA, ECB and BCCI together due to getting South Africa on board.
So it is a bit naive to assume the BCCI will sit there and roll over when every other board engages in give and take and diplomacy. And BCCI does not get it's way on everything too, as is made out sometimes. Neither do the CA, ECB, BCCI together.
Every board is engaging in give and take not only in the ICC but in every sporting organisation,so why shouldn't the BCCI to get the best for itself when it has more to give in exchange to get it? Would be stupid if they didn't.
