Harper lets Dhoni have it.

If people want to discuss Dhoni and Harper, go ahead.

If people want to troll, bait other posters, or start arguments, warnings and infractions will be handed out. I'd rather not, though.

I don't get how people are surprised at this at all. Why did everyone suppose Daryl pulled the plug before his alloted final test? Mrs Harper was making a Horlicks of his roses?

I've no love for Harper as such, but something had clearly gone on behind the scenes and it doesn't take Colombo to piece it all together.

Ironically Kettleborough made at least three reversible errors in the final test without comment.

If true, that comment from Dhoni is inappropriate. Dont entirely believe that its exactly what he said/meant though.

Harper's interpretation of the comment (if said that way) seems far off base, perhaps purposely.
Yeah, if what Harper says about the on-field interaction is true, then Dhoni has no excuse. He might have been right in his assessment, but he had no business making that sort of comment on-field.

Harper's interpretation of the comment is pretty lolworthy though.

most probably. but the cynic in me says that there is an element of melodrama in this. and possibly future financial considerations ie stoking the flames of controversy now to later talk about it in a book.

He was already dropped from the Elite Panel and this was going to be his last match(as he had got this series almost as a farewell gift).
There is no way he was retiring if that hadn't been the case because of any comment as he has faced much more before.

Besides he has too do something after his umpiring career seems over now(England are not likely to nominate him in the international panel, which is a level below the elite),so one last controversy and moment in the limelight ,for a man who liked the attention (even though he was a likeable chap) won't do him any harm.
Plus also would help boost the sales of the book which he is now inevitably going to write or the story he is going to sell etc...

Yeah ,no doubt in my mind.

He is trying to milk it as much as possible and will look to into the future too by making more of it.

Dhoni was out of order to try and intimidate the umpire like that....

Yet another reason why we need UDRS.

Not all umpires have the guts to stand up to players like Dhoni.

Anyone else reckon we need an ***official*** DRS and Umpires thread? I think it could rival Tendulkar v Ponting or, dare I say it, Warne v Murali.
But could it rival Bradman Tendulkar?!

Btw, Thought that Tendulkar Ponting is done and dusted now.

yeah.. players never ran up in intimidatory appeals to umpires before Dhoni.. 8-) Does Viv Richards or Ricky Ponting ring a bell????

I reckon most issues are isolated ones and relate to a specific occurance. They dont happen extremely often either so I reckon its best to have seperate threads like this one for these sort of issues.

Would never rival Tendulkar vs Mangoes in my mind. Epic battle that.
