Cook's record for Essex is 1,502 runs @ 42.91 with a SR of 80.58.

For England Lions last summer he played 2 "ODIs", scoring 75 runs @ 37.50 with a SR of 89.29.

If he were a young up and coming batsman with that record there'd be people crying out for him to be in the side.

You mean like the crying out over James Taylor and Alex Hales, among others?
Don't get me wrong, people are making noises but its hardly 'crying' and their records are better.

Well it would be if they were **** one day batsmen, which can happen.

Malinga should stop bowling this line and length nonsense. He only get a minimal amount of movement anyway. He should primarily bowl yorkers, bouncers & slower balls. Maybe slip in a length ball here and there.

I think its fine to bowl one or two earlier on as long as its straight and doesn't offer much width. He might get too predictable if he takes it out of his game.

Problem is that right now he bowls none early on and bowls too many later on. He should try to york cook next game. Cook will be pretty confident opening and look to be aggressive, that's when he should be vulnerable to as well. You castle him early, and the job will be much much easier for us.

regardless of the result of the final game SL has had a pretty good summer lost the test series due to one mad session and has matched England in the odi's quite a few positives for them during the summer.

Think they came off second best almost throughout the Test series, really. It would likely have been 2-0 or 3-0 if not for the rain, and when the opposition is treating your bowlers like net practice you're losing the game, just as when you're collapsing.

SL was a loooooooong way behind England in the Test series. Only once did they even look like getting on top and that was for about two sessions.

yeah bowling is a concern but they have made the highly rated English bowling attack look pretty average apart from as I said one mad session.

Nah they got eaten in the first innings of the third test too.

Tbh if you look at their second innings in the two drawn games, it just didn't really look like they were on course to lose if the matches had gone on a bit longer. Besides, when you take rain interruptions out of the equation, you take away clouds and breaks in play too and hence make batting much easier. I wouldn't say they were lucky to only lose one test, but given their attack, they were probably a bit lucky to get nil.
