Matthews & Chandimal didn't give England a chance out of charity they gave a chance because they felt that chandimal getting to century was important. Had england been less whiny, & more aggressive, they would have gone after Sri Lanka during this period. That's what AUS, SA or even NZ would have done.England can't demand a quick death over chandimal's century which is exactly what they did. There was no disrespect their just a matter of priorities. What's that suppose to mean and what the **** is ' sophomoric smugness'.
IMO it's a bit of disrespect towards the opposition, almost rubbing their faces in it. You said it yourself, ' He gave them a small opportunity', that's not how it works in Pro Sports, you don't want teams, doing you any favors, like I said it's disrespectful. You may not agree with what I just said but that's how I'd take it and I bet, it's how they did.
lt obviously didn't go too well with some of the SL dressing room, including the Captain also. Personally, personal milestones, take second place to getting the team over the line especially without taking any undue chances and it's clearly what they did, they took a chance to get someone a personal milestone. I suppose it all goes down to how much you rate personal milestones over the team.
I also reckon if England had of done the same thing, a few people would have had a complain about it also.
During the divine wrath inducing period of play SL went from needing 17 @ 2.42 rpo to 9 @ 3 rpo. I don't know how on earth that is an undue risk.
