Of course Substitute players should be banned. In no other sport can you have a player come on and just do this and that and have a great influence on the game. In Basketball you name your 11-12 players, if a bloke gets injured you can't bring someone in from outside the squad to fill in. I know it's different with substitute players in all, but you can't add to the squad, which is what you are doing in cricket if you have a sub fielder.
In basketball you play for an hour, with breaks every 15 minutes. It's not really comparable. No other sport in the world has you playing all day.

No, let people use subs. The advantage gained is so small and it is available to both sides so I can't see an issue with it.

I also think runners shouldn't have been banned. The chaos it causes makes for a great spectacle.

(Maybe 20/20 will start allowing powerplays by taking 2 off the field...?)

If you're out there for 6 hours a day, every now and then you're going to need to come off for a toilet break. There should be a time limit for substitutions (5-10 minutes), beyond which subs are only allowed if, like SS said, the original player is out for the whole game.
if it's 5-10 mins the fielding team can deal with 10 people. Or wait till the breaks to go.

You've been spending too much time with SS recently!! :-O
Err? I hate the DH rule in baseball too.

Regardless of how long the day is, basketball is definitely much more physically demanding than cricket - especially if you're fielding.

If you're running a lot between the wickets or if you're a fast bowler, then I could see the comparison.

I think it's bollocks when, like just now, a bowler finishes his spell and just wanders off the pitch.

Because you'd miss out on the bit where the crappiest tail-enders try to bat, which is the most fun part of cricket. Especially in the insanely tight situations.
Sorry, didn't make myself clear enough. Was saying I couldn't think of any practical reasons to oppose it. Well in favour of stuff like the above. :)

Whatever it takes!!!
It's a debate as old as the game itself, really. Why not name 13 players who can bat or bowl as the team desires but can only use 11 at a time? In the days of glacial rates of scoring, a team well behind in the match could just stack the batting and bat out 2 days for a draw but these days, it keeps the win on the table. Imagine a match situation where a team is chasing 400 to win on the last day but has subbed in 8 specialist batters in the line-up against a team which has subbed in a 3rd spinner or something.

Honestly, quirks and issues aside which would be tweaked over time, I can't think of a reason to oppose that other than it's not the way things have traditionally been done.
Can be tried in T20.. I thought the supersub rule was dismissed way too easily. They should try it in domestic T20s but in the sense that they name their 12 and then choose the guy who will sit out during batting inning and then the guy who will sit out their bowling inning.

Supersub rule always struck me as daft because you had to name it before the toss, making it the toss even more important as one team would invariably get an even bigger advantage.

The on field players should just wear adult nappies. Should solve all the problems
AWTA. Would make something like this even funnier. Now this is the kind of innovation the ICC should be bringing into the game instead of the UDRS bollocks...
