Seems to have worked out, can't blame them. SL players seem to really care about their centuries, remember them bowling wides/no-balls to deny Sachin and Sehwag, and now they're timing their chases perfectly as well.

Good for Chandimal to have his maiden ton though, seems a real talent. At Lord's as well.

EDIT : Whoops, it's actually his 2nd ODI ton. Well, whatever.

Hate to be a sourpuss, but if this was another team dragging it out like this questions would seriously be asked.

Anyway, we were outclassed.

England should have chucked a wide or two into the boundary as well.

haha loved how it was so in your face, KP and Cook were having a moan abt it (they had no real business to, showed their vulnerability), and then a smoking six out of nowhere!

positives for england include a very good hundred by cookie, and pietersen's short but sweet innings.

No idea why Broad was allowed to bowl out when I think swann had bowled only 6 overs or so. the match was gone by then, and swanneh couldn't do much after that. cook the captain has still a long way to go.

Why? That's a horrible attitude to have. They were keeping England in the game, why on earth should England try and throw away even a 0.0001% chance? Instead, bring the field in, sledge a bit, try create a bit more pressure, play on their nerves etc. Bowling wides/no-balls deliberately is disgusting.

No disagree, What Mathews and Chandimal did was far far worse.
As a SL fan I was embarrassed by that show.

exactly.

give it your best when out there. precisly why I still haven.t got over that randiv no ball to sehwag. if deliberate, that was one of the most unsportsmanlike stuff.

While it was kind of bad to watch, he is just a 21 year old kid and a century at Lord's means a lot.

Hilarious ending to that game. The looks on the faces of some of the players on the balcony tells its own story. Smile on Sanga's face after the win was one of pride as the captain of his choice showed he had some serious balls and showed confidence in his younger team mate.

As for my opinion on the ending of this game, quite happy about it actually. Mathews will one day be the captain of the side. This shows that he's capable of standing up to everyone else and I also think he will learn a lot from this experience. It was definitely not the right decision that he made out there but he held his guns out there while the dressing room glared daggers at him. Chandimal will learn a lot as well and in the end it was indeed an easy win although it could have been easier.

I bet this ODI series puts Trott and Cook out of form, just in time for the Indians.
At least Cook scored a ton today, but I do think, it could become a bit of a worry, players do tend to pick up bad habits in one day cricket, if their not careful. Trott especially, as looked like he hasn't held a bit in a age, which is a bit of a worry.

Who were the brain trust that picked Dernbach?

Why would you pick someone who has a economy rate of over 6 after 60 odd games?

I don't understand why there is so much animosity to chandimal from the England camp. He gave them a small opportunity and smug-nosed englishmen decided to whine about how it was 'unsportsmanlike' without capitalizing, or even attempting to capitalize on the situation.
It seems to me that england have lost their guts after collinwood leaving, with the guts having been replaced by a sophomoric smugness. Nothing Matthews & Chandimal did remotely unsportsman like, all they did was flirtatiously give england a minute chance, which england wasn't even remotely bothered to attempt capitalize on. England don't get to choose how & when to die after bowling pathetically.

As far as the SL camp is concerned i don't see why we should be giving chadimal grief as well. Dilshan is way too impulsive. We had the game firmly under out grasp. even with all blocking going on the required rate was never above 3 and victory was always a couple of boundaries away. Had the required rate been close to 6 this would have been an issue.

Chandimal should be congratulated for playing a gutsy innings. England went hard at him with short length bowling, and he took is well despite having a weak defense against bowling like that. His presence of mind and stroke play was exceptional. Actually his offensive batting is very reminiscent of mahela when he first came onto the scene. Sri lanka should be congratulating this kid for holding the middle order together, where we have to propensity of implode, instead of condemning him for being selfish, which he wasn't. Kid's only 21.

Yep,

Dishan didn't come out of that in spectacular colors... tbh... In fact if anything, he should've commended the youngsters for their immense self confidence in their own abilities, rather than fall prey to some non existent "fair play" and all that hogwash.

Angelo is a star really!! He's going to go places and in another 3-4 years time he's going to be captain. I can see shades of Imran Khan in him and also MSD. He's cool, calm and has immense faith in other team mates.

He's got picked because of his performances for the England Lions and his improved a lot in the last year or so, that's why they've given him a go. Do I think he's a international bowler, no but you don't find out till you try them.

What's that suppose to mean and what the **** is ' sophomoric smugness'.
IMO it's a bit of disrespect towards the opposition, almost rubbing their faces in it. You said it yourself, ' He gave them a small opportunity', that's not how it works in Pro Sports, you don't want teams, doing you any favors, like I said it's disrespectful. You may not agree with what I just said but that's how I'd take it and I bet, it's how they did.
lt obviously didn't go too well with some of the SL dressing room, including the Captain also. Personally, personal milestones, take second place to getting the team over the line especially without taking any undue chances and it's clearly what they did, they took a chance to get someone a personal milestone. I suppose it all goes down to how much you rate personal milestones over the team.
I also reckon if England had of done the same thing, a few people would have had a complain about it also.
